BILLS C-10, C-11, C-36, S-233
Dear Senator,
I understand there are several Bills of great concern currently being reviewed in parliament. They are Bill S-233, Bill C-10, Bill C-11 and Bill C-36.
Bill S-233: While a guaranteed basic income may seem to be a noble cause, a blanket social assistance program will discourage free enterprise, capital endeavours and innovations without which a robust Canadian free market will eventually become obsolete.
Bill C-36: A Criminal Code amendment to curb "hate speech" is just a sly way of eliminating free speech if it is not acceptable to the court's arbitrary definition of the word "hate". Freedom of expression and speech is fundamental to a free nation. When a court can arbitrarily criminalize a Canadian for exercising free speech on behalf of an "offended" party, then the country has fallen.
Bill C-10: This brings in new tax revenue from streaming services and supposedly ensures Canadian content (CanCon) remains intact for Canadian viewership effectively regulating foreign streaming companies. With this Bill, foreign streaming services may face a penalty of $15 million if they do not comply with CRTC regulations. This may effectively suffocate streaming services by foreign companies in Canada, quashing valid Canadian storytelling and production in the process. We need less regulation and government control, not more.
Bill C-11: Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2020, and in particular the Consumer Privacy Protection Act (CPPA) that is part of the larger piece of legislation, would significantly reshape Canada’s federal commercial privacy requirements. The legislation has been designed to advance consumer interests, as opposed to being based upon human rights principles, and has been broadly critiqued by experts on the basis that the legislation would not adequately address issues of meaningful consent, de-identification, or data mobility (Kenyon, Miles. The Citizen Lab, April 23, 2021).
These Bills are not in the best interest of Canadians as they further erode our rights and freedoms and will help to relegate our beautiful country to that of a third world nation.
I do not agree with Bills S-233, C-10, C-11, and C-36 and ask that you do NOT support any of these Bills.
Regards,
Rick Kloss
