On August 22nd 2024, my son and daughter-in-law were really excited moving into their first house. After living in an apartment for a couple of years, they wanted more space and something to call their own. With talk of one day starting a family, they got pre-approved for a mortgage and started looking at houses but with a limited budget and the market still showing signs of high prices, they finally found a three-bedroom townhouse 15 minutes south of their apartment in London Ontario.
They got quotes from about 4 movers in which one was recommended by their real estate agent, Mighty Movers. On the morning of their move, the tone of the move started early when the truck was an hour late and our son got a call that the truck had hit the back of another car when it had braked suddenly in front of them. After a short wait they finally arrived at the apartment. One of the first things I noticed was that the truck they were driving was a rental truck! What high quality moving company uses rental trucks? The crew was two relatively young guys who seemed pleasant and chatty. The next thing I noticed was that they did not wrap any of the furniture up until they had taken it down to the truck. My wife and I have moved 5 times and have never seen it done this was before. This stuff has to be taken down 5 floors in an elevator unwrapped!
Well, the guys started the work at 11 am and finished at 5:30 PM. One of the times my wife and I moved, the company had brought a 26-foot truck and surprisingly filled it with twice as much stuff as our son has and yet his company filled a 26-foot truck with their belongings. That doesn’t sound to me like the truck was packed very well. We left the apartment and told the movers we would meet them at the townhouse. Another hour goes by and my son gets a call from the company saying the truck would not start! They were going to get somebody from the rental company to come try and start the truck. This turned out to be unsuccessful and they told our son the truck would be towed and then everything would be transferred over to another truck in the morning.
So, our son and daughter-in-law had to spend the night at our place an hour away from London with only the clothes they were wearing at the time. We had to pay $50 for gar and $70 later for a fast-food dinner. The next morning it was an hour back to London where the truck showed up promptly as promised. After bringing almost everything in it was discovered that the dining room table was not as sturdy and missing some screws. Later that evening after I tried repairing the missing screws, we lifted the table up, and it completely fell apart. We then went to put the tv on a tv stand and noticed one of the legs on the tv was cracked and damaged so that the tv would not stand.
My son calmly spoke to mighty Movers about these damages and the owner said he would waive the fee for the move. The move was $155 an hour which at this point was a waive of $1050. The dining room table however was $600 to replace and the leg for the tv another $77. The following day, my son discovers that the upright freezer is not working because the back panel to the circuit board is missing and the circuit board is smashed. And now when this is being brought to the company’s attention, they are denying this damage! A freezer just doesn’t get smashed on its own! I think the freezer probably fell onto the table because they were packed together near the end. I have never even heard any stories of anyone getting damaged appliances being delivered from major retailers.
Like I said my wife and I have moved 5 times. One of the moves was with all the appliances and we had no damages or trouble like this. Our son and daughter-in-law’s exciting experience of moving into their first house will always be remembered now as total destruction and disappointment. I somehow don’t think Mighty Movers are all that Mighty! Nobody in our circle of people we know would ever consider using this company in the future!
