Celebrating Opal’s 20th anniversary for Save the Rainforest.
Opal is the gold standard of self-patterning sock yarn, known for its imaginative and ever-changing range of collections. But below the beauty is a hard-working, hard-wearing high-quality wool blend, manufactured in Germany to strict European standards. One ball will make a pair of socks!
Opal Yarn is celebrating 20 years of their popular Rainforest collections (that included more than 150 colours) by bringing back the most requested colourways, colours that have been retired for years, and are finally back for a limited time to stock up on and enjoy!
This 6-Ply/DK weight yarn is 50% thicker than Opal's traditional 4-Ply/fingering weight sock yarn and works up quickly into a fun self-patterning fabric that is warm, soft, moisture wicking and absorbent, durable, non-felting, doesn’t shrink, and, thanks to its superwash finish is machine washable. It is also suitable for knitting machines.
Each 150g ball has enough yarn for one pair of socks (even for larger feet).
But sock yarn is not just for socks. This self-patterning yarn works well on small items, like hat, mitts, scarves and baby garments. And it’s great held together with other yarn, giving depth and variety to yarn blending.
Opal donates proceeds from the sale of this yarn to foundations that save habitat from development and clear-cutting, to support rainforest preservation, education and indigenous people. In these twenty years, Opal has donated over €300,000 to “Save the Rainforest” and used this to buy up areas of rainforest and protect them.
Like many of the Opal shade ranges, this is a limited edition... once it’s gone, it’s gone.
