Monday, April 22, 2024 – LYS WEEK EVENTS!
Welcome to London Yarns LYS Week! We have a lot planned for your excitement and enjoyment.
Local Yarn Store Day (LYS Day) is a TNNA program (The National Needlearts Association) designed to drive traffic to local yarn stores. LYS Day has brought thousands of ‘yarnies’ from across the US and Canada to their local shops to see the exclusive, unique products created specifically for LYS Day. Think of it as an International Yarn Crawl!
We here at London Yarn are participating in this seventh annual LYS Day (Local Yarn Store Day) scheduled for April 27, 2024! BUT…we’re going a step further…we are going to make it a LYS WEEK! Join us for a day WEEK of celebrating our unique community of knitters, crocheters, felters, weavers, and spinners from April 23-27, 2024.
Here is a brief summary of what we have lined up for today’s email that details our LYS Week Events:

BRAND NEW CUSTOM COLOURWAYS (in transit & arriving later this week)…
Who better to do the introductions than Janet herself?!?
“I am so excited to announce that we have a brand new product to launch for our Local Yarn Store Week! Not only is it a new product that we will be carrying from Ancient Arts, but we also have partnered with Ancient Arts to create THREE BRAND NEW Custom Colourways that will be exclusive to London Yarns!
As with our prior custom colourways, the colours will be based on the photography of my husband Darrell’s business, Imagine Photography. The three that we are starting with are based on these photos:

Evening After the Rain
Revival is a fingering weight (#1) yarn that is milled by an environmentally conscious mill located in South Africa. This mill actually collects and categorizes ALL of the fibre left clinging to the spinning equipment when each process is complete. Usually this “fluff” would be disposed of as mill waste, but this spinning facility actually organizes the fibre by type and keeps it to be spun into a new earth friendly yarns.
This current run of Revival consists of 49% Wool, 34% Mohair, 11% Nylon, 4% Acrylic and 2% Silk. It is perfect for all projects including socks as the silk and nylon content provide the strength. Strength is also gleaned from the spinning process.
It is tightly spun and yields great yardage; a whopping 400 metres (437 yards) per 100 gram skein! The tightness in which this yarn is spun also controls the halo of the mohair leaving the Maker with all the benefits of the fibre blend but without too much fuzz! Revival is priced right in line with our other Ancient Arts yarns at $32.98 for each 100 gram skein.” - Janet

ANCIENT ARTS LYS DAY COLOURWAY…
This year Ancient Arts has released a Limited Edition Colourway to celebrate Local Yarn Store Day! This colourway is called “Festival” and is based on the cherry blossom festival that takes place out west this time of year. It is GORGEOUS and we are pleased to announce that we have brought this colourway in on THREE fibre bases! Ancient Arts Socknado, Little Nettle Soft, AND the new Revival fibre base – all in fingering weight!

Festival is a celebration of the extraordinary event that is Local Yarn Store (LYS) Day! It's day for fibre folk to gather together at their local haunts and support the stores and businesses that keep this fibre community flourishing!
Inspired in part by Spring and Cherry Blossom time, Ancient Arts has created this beautiful colourway that will stop you in your tracks to admire this pretty yarn. We'll bet you won't be able to resist patting it too!

Revival Fingering (NEW) – an environmentally conscious, fingering weight (#1) yarn made from mixed fibre reclaimed from the carding and milling process made into a high twist yarn suitable for socks, shawls, mittens and sweaters. Fibre content includes mixed wools, mohair, nylon, silk, and a small amount of acrylic; this yarn dyes with beautiful jewel tones and may be gently machine washed even though it is not superwash; 400m/100g; $32.98
Socknado – Ancient Arts Yarns most popular and versatile fingering weight (#1) yarn made from top quality merino wool blended with just the right amount of nylon to provide durability. Socknado is made up of 3-ply’s with a high twist that is both soft and strong, a joy to work with and wear; 350m/100g; $32.98.
Little Nettle Soft – This fabulous fingering weight (#1) yarn is an eco-friendly yarn made from sustainable natural fibres – a blend of fine merino and nettle, yes - NETTLE! Nettle is a highly sustainable low impact plant fibre resulting in a yarn that is warm in winter but breathes in summer and can be used for a wide range of projects. Nettle gives this yarn stunning lustre, drape, and great stitch definition, and adds a lovely contrast to the hand dyed colours as it takes the dye in a different way than animal fibres do, thus creating a ‘heathered effect’ to the yarn; 350m/100g; $34.98.

This is the Fidget Cowl by Casapinka. Named for its texture and how it can work sort of like a fidget spinner. It is a fun, simple, repetitive (aka soothing) knit, narrower around the top (26”) and wider around the bottom (37”) for a comfortable fit. Knit top down and in the round.
YARN: min. 256m/280yd of fingering weight (#1) or sock yarn (#1) in each of two colours; shown using one variegated and one solid colour.
NEEDLE: 3.75mm x 60cm (US 5 x 24”) circular knitting needle

PIXEL KNIT COWL
Pixel Cowl is a mosaic knit in two colours, but uses just one colour each row. So there is no need to carry along the second colour to create this colourwork pattern. Pixel is knit flat and then seamed.
