SOCKS, YARNS & A SHAWL

Monday, February 5, 2024 – Socks, Yarns & A Shawl

Have you seen the latest model garment that Judy knit up for us to drool over admire? It’s called Simple Gifts, a shawl that she chose to knit out of Malabrigo Arroyo along with a strand of lace weight mohair and it is stunning!

Pictures truly don’t do it any justice!! Be sure to have a look at it in person the next time you come into the store. The pattern calls for DK weight yarn and we have a number of yarn options for you!

The first, of course, is Malabrigo ARROYO. We have 7 colours in stock that will make this shawl, using just 2 skeins; $32.98/skein.

Another fun yarn to use for Simple Gifts Shawl would be …

4 (5) skeins to make the shawl – choose from 4 prints; $11.98/skein

And one more multi-coloured yarn to tempt you…

Berroco MILLEFIORI LIGHT
2 (2) balls makes either size shawl – 5 colours in stock; $23.98/ball.

If you would like to use a solid or heathered yarn, here are a few suggestions…

Illimani SANTI & SANTI TWEED
4 (5) skeins – 17 colours available; $19.98/skein

Berroco ULTRA WOOL DK
2 (3) balls – 8 colour options in stock; $17.98/ball

Briggs & Little DURASPORT
2 (2) skeins – choice of 7 colours; $11.98/skein

About the pattern…

Simple Gifts is a botanically inspired, asymmetrical triangular shawl. It features a textured panel of leaf lace flanked by a stockinette body striped with little peeks of broken ribbing.

It begins with just a few stitches that flow into a wide panel filled with columns of stacked leaves. Surrounded by garter stitch and lines of single ribbing, it’s a gorgeous project to knit and an amazing gift to give!

The various textures—all of which are formed by combinations of simple stitches such as knits, purls, yarnovers and decreases—combine to form a shawl which looks somewhat complicated but is actually an easy-to-memorize, relaxing and stress-free project.

Pattern includes both fully written and charted instructions. Additional instructions are included if you want to customize the size, along with detailed blocking instructions.

Finished Sizes - can be easily customized
Medium – 58” wingspan x 25” deep (147 x 64 cm)
Large – 69” wingspan x 29" deep (175 x 74 cm)

Yardage: 448 (631) mtrs / 490 (690) yards of DK weight yarn (#3)

Note: if you want a little more drape to your shawl, feel free to use a fingering weight yarn – especially lovely when paired with lace weight mohair.

YARN SUGGESTIONS

“I like to think of the act of knitting as a simple gift—one that is always there when we need it and which soothes our souls by the repetitive process of wrapping yarn around a stick, forming each stitch one at a time, until they all combine to form a piece of knitted magic.” – Dee O’Keefe

DK WEIGHT SOCK YARNS…!

Did you know that we have recently stocked some DK weight (#3) self-patterning ‘sock yarn’? If you have yet to make a pair of DK weight socks, then now might just be the time! DK socks are a much faster knit than traditional sock yarn AND they are very comfortable to wear. They also make a great gift!!

But, this yarn is not just for socks either! It is also great for hats, mittens, fingerless mitts, scarves and sweaters!

Know who else we saw drinking in the warmth of the sun??? A robin!! Either he has returned unseasonably early…or spring is just around the corner?!?! Hmmmm.
