Welcome to our final edition of Countdown to Christmas! The big day is almost here and we have lots to share with you all! We have had tons of new products arrive this week, so I will try to keep the descriptions short today. Take a scroll and enjoy all of the new fibre therapy goodies below! At the end of today’s email we are featuring what is currently on needles or recently finished projects from our staff in case any of you are curious about what we all have been up to lately. I am constantly blown away by how creative and skilled our staff are!

CHIAOGOO FORTÉ 2.0 SPECIAL EDITION IC SET

Chiaogoo has just announced their second version of the special edition Forté set! We have managed to secure a small number of sets for the shop and we are so excited to tell you all about this exclusive set!

The Forté 2.0 set includes 14 pairs of 5” needle tips, sizes 2.75mm to 10 mm (including 3.00 mm). The small [S] tip joins are made with stainless steel ends and carbon fiber shafts. They are designed to have smooth joins, the perfect ‘grab’, and they are VERY strong. The large [L] join tips are made of stainless steel and lustrous, slick African Blackwood that promotes smooth stitch gliding. The needle tips are laser imprinted with the diameter and join size and will never wear off!
Also included are three Swiv360 [S] & [L] cords as well as three [S] Red Twist cords for knitters who prefer a smoother transition over the swivel action. Cords and tips will make 24”, 32”, 40” and longer circulars.

I find this product super handy for splitting balls of yarn in half, or to keep an eye on how much yarn I have left when I am worried about running out.

KATY LU’S SOCKS DP-1

“Although I myself am not a huge fan of brown, my husband Darrell chose this colourway from Lang Super Sox Cashmere Blend for his new pair of socks. When you ask someone to choose a colour, you can't really say anything once they do! I'm embarrassed to say that the poor ball sat in my sock yarn stash for quite awhile, but the yarn made it onto my needles and the socks are now being enjoyed. These socks are actually lovely and soft and Darrell finds them very comfortable. He has always been a fan of hand knit socks, but it was time to knit him a new pair or two as you can see by the next photo. My "go to" pattern is my Mom's design (Katy Lu) for her favourite hand knit socks. I love the wide rib on the leg and the top of the foot. It helps keep the socks snug to your leg and stay up! The pattern is available both on Ravelry or in store as one of our own Dragonpine Designs, Pattern DP-1, our very first published pattern!
“I am just in the process of finishing my Bragg Creek Cowl from Ancient Arts Yarns. I just need to cast it off and I will be enjoying it this winter. When I saw the pattern and kit that Ancient Arts had put together, I knew that I needed to knit it to honour the memory of my 2 kitties, Maynard & Snowball. Maynard was a beautiful Russian Blue kitty who lived a wonderful life with us of over 20 years. The grey yarn in this cowl is a colourway called Russian Silver Blue. It was meant to be. The cream colour yarn in the cowl is called "Au Natural" and reminds me of our kitty Snowball who we affectionately called "Miss Ball" or "Ballie". She was a long haired cream point Himalayan who also enjoyed a wonderful life of 19 years. Maynard & Snowball are greatly missed and were a wonderful kitty duo. The yarn in the cowl is called Ancient Arts Herlig DK and it is a blend of 50% Viking Norway Wool and 50% Merino. It has a beautiful hand and will be comfy and cozy to wear.
I love this feature in the email highlighting what is on our needles, and I would love to keep it going throughout the new year. As knitters and crocheters it is always so great to motivate each other with new project ideas.” – Janet

Judy decided to knit the Almina sweater out of Malabrigo Rios in the colourway ‘Winter Lake’. This sweater is currently hanging out at the shop, and looks and feels even more gorgeous in person! Malabrigo Yarns have a beautiful sheen and great stitch definition which is super to highlight and showcase cables or textured knits. The yarn has a beautiful “hand” and a perfect “squish” factor (this is a highly technical knitting term) LOL! We have both Malabrigo Rios and Arroyo in stock at the moment.

Carol and Heather both knit the Metropolis by Canadian designer, Tanis Lavallee. They chose to use Malabrigo Rasta, which is a super bulky weight yarn. I bet those sweaters are so cozy, and what a lovely photo of the two of them together!

Carol is crocheting away to get this beautiful Christmas blanket done for the holidays. Winter Wonderland is a mosaic crochet with many different festive motifs. Carol is using Berroco Vintage for hers, and it is looking amazing! If you are interested in giving this pattern a try, both Carol and Judy have crocheted it multiple times and one of Judy’s Winter Wonderland blankets is currently in the shop on display. They would definitely be able to help you out with yarn selection!

Cheryl cast on the Trigger Finger Trouters Mittens out of Briggs & Little Regal. This pattern is from the book Saltwater Gifts. We currently have both the Saltwater Mittens and Saltwater Socks books in stock at the shop if you are interested in making your own colourwork creations. These books were written by Christine LeGrow and Shirley A. Scott, who are both knitters from Newfoundland. The patterns all use Briggs & Little yarn, which we do stock at the shop in a few different bases and numerous colourways.

KATY LU’S SOCKS DP-1

I also have a pair of Katy Lu’s socks on my needles at the moment. I am knitting this pair for my boyfriend and hopefully (lol) they will be done for the holidays. I am using Zen Superfine Fingering because it is so soft and cozy on the feet, and the heels (and soon toes) are knit with Rico Superba 4-ply Fingering. I have really been enjoying how all of the colours are complimenting each other and that is also helping them to knit up quickly! I can’t seem to put them down!
TUNISIAN “IN THE ROUND” MITTENS

This is my first Tunisian Crochet project using a double ended crochet hook. This has been a great pattern for learning the technique of Tunisian Crochet in the round, and after frogging a few times, I think I am finally getting the hang of it. Tunisian Crochet allows you to create stitches that look very similar to the knit stitch, and with a double ended hook, you can work in the round rather than flat. This technique is so much fun and works up very quickly. I highly recommend giving it a try. Double ended crochet hooks are currently available for special order if you are interested in getting one for yourself. I am using Cascade Anthem for this pair, and they are feeling super cozy and warm so far.
