SHOW & TELL

Monday, May 22, 2023 – Show & Tell

Greetings on this holiday Monday. We hope that you are enjoying the beautiful weather on your day off. Because today is a statutory holiday, we thought we would keep things light and simple...lots of pictures, not a lot of reading. So we present you with our ‘Show & Tell’ email.

Did you ever have ‘Show & Tell’ when you were in school? Did you look forward to it? Get excited about what others had to share? And what you had to share with others? Well, it seems we don’t ever tire of that feeling, and as Knitters and Crocheters, Felters and Makers, we can always continue to learn from and be inspired by each other’s passion for our projects.

A question that we are often asked by our customers and friends…”what are you working on?” Today, we are going to answer that question for you with a ‘Show & Tell’ email; this is being done in a spirit of sharing, not one of bragging.

But before we get to what WE are working on, here are a couple of finished projects recently shared with us…you might have already seen them on our Instagram posts.

Look at how lovely Carol’s Laurel Jumper turned out. Carol chose to do the patterning to highlight the yoke and trim the border, instead of all-over patterning as written.

She used Ella Rae Marmel for the two-colour fairisle work against a cream coloured background. Thank you Carol for wearing it in for some 'show & tell’ inspiration.

Cheryl has also knit a Laurel Jumper out of Berroco Comfort Sock….

Elaine was thrilled with her completed Mighty Mile-A-Minute Calendar Blanket 2021 and was kind enough to bring it in for…wait for it….some ‘show & tell’. Look at the work that went into it…WOW! Thanks for sharing, Elaine.

And now, presented in alphabetical order according to the name of the pattern, are our recently finished projects, our WIP’s and a newly cast on project from our London Yarns ‘family’.

For my Agapanthas, I braved a colour that was just a little outside my comfort zone…turns out that I like it!! This is an ‘easy peasy’, comfy summer top that can be worn casually with a pair of jeans or dressed up with a scarf or a bit of jewellery; knit in Berroco Remix Light (shown in col. 6997 apricot), completed in the smallest size with just 2 balls. The Pattern is a free download.

Cheryl made 9 individual squares for the front, and then joined them, and one big square with a centre motif for the back. She used machine washable Cascade Anthem (2 balls of MC blue, 1 ball each of 3 contrast colours) on a 4.50 mm hook and covered two 16” x 16” pillow forms. The Pattern & Tutorial are a free download.

Carol enjoyed knitting her DRK Everyday Cowl with Zen Yarn Garden and lace weight Mohair held together throughout. Soooo pretty!!

Just two balls of Berroco Ultra Wool DK (shown in driftwood #83104 & sour cherry #83145), completed BOTH hats! Abby had fun doing these Fairisle hats! The hat on the left with the diamond pattern is the size small and the one on the right with stacked stripes was the large size. The Pattern is a free download.

Fraternal French Macaroon Twins…try saying that fast 3 times!! These two beauties are made from Bernat Softee Cotton and were knit by Cheryl in colours Pool Green #69010 and Petal #52004. The Pattern is a free download.

Abby knit her Friend of the Forest Hood with Berroco Sesame (shown in colour #7424 blue poppy) in the largest size. It took 1.25 balls, leaving enough to do a few more Soho Scrunchies. The Pattern is a free download.

For my Ipswich Cardigan, I chose to work with Berroco Remix Light again (shown in col. #6961 peony). This is a top down knit, so shortening the length of the sleeves was a breeze. It’s a great, lightweight cardi (only 210g - in the smallest size) to keep the shoulders warm in a cool breeze or A/C. The Pattern is a free download.

Katy Lu's Socks (with 64 sts for myself) knit in Magic Kette sock yarn (now discontinued).

Janet had her Lepidopterist with her when she was in London a couple of weeks ago and we all got a sneak peak at it…it is stunning, even before being blocked! Janet has both ‘wings’ completed and off the needles. She is now in the process of joining the two pieces prior to blocking. Yarn of choice is Zen Yarn Garden (100g) & Millefiore Sock Luxe (50g - now discontinued) made in the largest size.

Heather managed not to go cross-eyed while knitting this attractive Little Mitered Stripes Blanket! She chose to work with Berroco Vintage DK in a neutral palette of grey & white (colours #2106 smoke and #2100 snow day). The Pattern is a free download.

Now that Heather’s Little Mitered Square Blanket is complete, she’s just cast on a new project (shown above, in work and on the needles) called the Llyr Baby Blanket. Knit in a worsted weight, you could use Berroco Sesame, Cascade 220 Superwash Wave, Hayfield Bonus Aran or choose from any of our other in stock worsted weight yarns.

Abby knit the small size and used less than one skein in each colour of Vintage Chunky to knit her Lodge Bunny Bonnet (shown in mochi #69010 & jalapeño #61196). The Pattern is a free download.

Cheryl used her new favourite yarn, Bernat Softee Cotton to knit this Norwegian Fir Top Down Cardigan in colour #69023 fuchsia. Isn’t it sweet?

These Soho Scrunchies look cute in Abby’s hair. She’s made a number of them in different yarns and colours. This one was made with Berroco Dulce in colour #2011 silver. The Pattern is a free download.

And that, my friends, concludes this first edition of ‘Show & Tell’ from London Yarns. Sooo…what’s on YOUR needles & hooks?
