Well here we are…Spring has officially started and we are nearing the end of another month. While we await the arrival of the early spring flowers, we thought we might put you in a ‘spring mood’ with a BRAND NEW yarn from Berroco’s 2023 Spring line up, along with some really cute patterns to go with, as well as two NEW SHAWL patterns from Stephen West that feature some interesting colour-play and construction.

Well, he’s done it yet again!! Stephen West, well known for his use of colour and technique, has just released two new Modular Shawl patterns! They are similar but different and use a number of different colours, as per his style!
Both shawls are easily sized up or down to your liking. And if you need assistance picking out yarns and colours, we are here for you and more than happy to help you out.

Choose seven colours of fingering weight yarn to create this fragmented geometric shawl. This top-down shawl is composed of seven vertical wedges. Knit each wedge individually as you stripe your colours. Each new wedge is attached to the previous section using a simple modular technique (= no sewing!), so you only work with one colour at a time. You can easily customize the size by knitting more stripes for a larger shawl or simply stop each wedge section early for a smaller shawl. The pattern is written for seven colours, but you can use as many colours as you want. The squishy garter stitch is framed with I-cord edges, resulting in a beautifully large sized shawl.
Finished Measurements: 76″ wingspan x 35″ long at center (193cm x 89cm), blocked
The size is easy to customize by simply stopping early for each wedge and binding off early.

Gaia works up to a traditional DK weight gauge (#3) and so can be used with any DK weight pattern of your choosing, but Berroco has created 6 designs to match this yarn, shown below.
How it's made:
Gaia is made when pre-consumer recycled cotton fabric is collected and shredded down to roving and then spun into yarn. It's then combined with recycled nylon to help with its structure.
The shades of Gaia are not dyed but are created by using the colours from the recycled material.
