ONE SKEIN PROJECTS
Monday, December 26, 2022 – One Skein Projects
We sincerely hope that you & your families were able to make it through the weekend winter storm, the ice & the wind chill without incident and that you stayed safe.
In light of the chill factor that we’ve just experienced, today we are sharing with you three one-skein projects using this week’s yarn feature, Eco Cashmere DK from Nordic Yarns. All three projects will provide warmth for you & your loved ones hands and heads and by extension their hearts too, should you choose to gift them with your hand knit items to wear.

YARN FEATURE & PATTERNS…
The ultimate soft and sustainable yarn!
This yarn is made out of 100% Italian Cashmere, a blend of virgin cashmere and recycled cashmere, and is incredibly soft and light-weight. This 100% cashmere, luxury yarn is an Earth-friendly mix of recycled and Mongolian pure virgin cashmere.
The recycled content helps make this cashmere less pill-prone than others so your garments and accessories still look great after a winter of wear.
Nordic Yarn Eco Cashmere: Not only is it probably the best yarn you’ll ever work with, but it is also a carbon balanced and climate-smart yarn.

This simple, stylish beret employs a DK-weight cashmere yarn for a cozy fabric that’s soft on even the most sensitive skin. The flattering shape looks great on men and women alike. And it’s very ‘Euro’ – our friend Craig wore his on a trip to Paris and tourists kept asking him for directions!
To Fit: small adult/large child (medium adult)
Yardage: 137 mtrs/150 yds DK weight yarn (#3) will make either size
YARN:
1 skein ECO CASHEMERE DK – 100% cashmere; 150m/164yd/50g; 9 colours; $37.98
**Note: to knit the pattern as written, use Eco Cashmere Fingering weight or follow the Adaptation instructions below to knit with DK weight.

Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch, blocked
Needles:
3.50 mm x 40 cm (US 4 x 16”) circular needles or one size smaller than gauge size
4.00 mm x 40 cm (US 6 x 16”) circular needles or size to obtain gauge
4.00 mm (US 6) double pointed needles
The Free DK weight Pattern Adaptation
- This Adaptation to the original pattern uses just 137m/150yd DK weight yarn to complete the Beret.
- Please refer to the original pattern for complete instructions. Only changes are covered in this adaptation.

Cast on:
Cast on 102 (108) sts and join in round as directed in original pattern.
Purl 5 rounds, placing makers on final round every 17 (18) sts as directed.
Increase rounds:
Repeat Rounds 1 & 2 until you have 144 (150) sts. [24 (25) sts between markers]
Even rounds:
Knit 7 rounds.
Decrease rounds:
Repeat Rounds 1 & 2 until 72 sts remain (12 sts between markers).
Continue working as directed in original pattern.
I-cord ‘stem’ option:
When 6 sts remain, repeat decrease round 1 once more, working all sts onto one needle. [3 sts]
I-cord Row: *Without turning, slide sts back to right end of needle, bring yarn firmly across the back and knit across to end. Repeat from * for ¾"/2cm for stem. Break yarn, leaving a 6" tail. With darning needle, thread tail through all sts one at a time. Draw up tightly and proceed to finishing.
This one-skein pattern became a fast favourite. Wear them when knitting outdoors on a chilly day. Or layer them over your fine leather gloves when the temperature drops. They’re all about style!
These gloves are lovely in virtually any DK weight (#3) yarn – but especially luxurious made with cashmere!
Now get creative: Work the cuffs in another colour or a different yarn (great for using up leftovers). Add stitch details or embroidery to the back of the hand. Add buttons…one per welt, one every other welt, or just one great button on each cuff. How about little pom-poms? Or ribbons? Have some fun!
Size: women's medium; 6.5" around palm. Use smaller needles for smaller hands.

3.75 mm (US 5) double pointed needles or short circular
4.00 mm (US 6) double pointed needles or short circular

This free pattern uses favourite details from two well-loved favourites - our Basic Beanie and Minimalist Hat! As easy as can be, it has a ribbed brim, near-invisible shaping at the crown, and a few options for styling. Knit it to be utterly simple with a touch of slouch, or more closely fitted with an adorable pompom!
This easy beanie lets our chosen yarn speak for itself (especially if that choice is Eco Cashmere DK)!
Finished Size: approx. 19”/48cm around (fits 20”-23”/51-58cm head); approx. 7½”/19cm deep for a close fitting beanie or 9½”/24cm for some slouch.
