FALL KNITTING PROJECTS

Monday, October 17, 2022 – Fall Knitting Projects

What do you think…does that chill in the air mean that we need to start knitting some winter projects to keep us and our loved ones warm? If you’re ready to begin, then today’s email is ‘just the ticket’!

We are featuring four projects – a hat, a scarf, a wrap/throw and a blanket. The wonderful thing about ALL of today’s projects is that they are all ‘small knits’. The hat and scarf are self-explanatory, but although the wrap/throw and the blanket are larger projects, they are both modular knits, meaning that they are worked piece by small piece, that when put together results in a larger finished project.

As always, we have included links to the appropriate yarn or weight of yarn to make each project and we would be happy to help you in your colour selections.

Happy project planning!

ORBITAL HAT

There is nothing quite like a cozy winter hat, and this gorgeous new design is the perfect accessory as the weather gets colder.

The Orbital Hat is a fun, fisherman’s style hat that was designed to add comfort and warmth to your winter look.

This hat is knit bottom up, seamlessly in the round and the stitch pattern creates a very dense structure which results in a snug fit and keeps your ears warm. The beautiful spiraling texture is created by simple cables inspired by the swirling night sky. Orbital can be worn with the brim folded up or down.

This hat makes a perfect gift and is a fantastic way to add a pop of bright, cheerful colour to your handmade wardrobe.

BERROCO DROPSHIP PROJECT…

PARQUET WRAP/THROW
by Berroco Design Team

Sesame is a popular yarn for good reason. Its eye-catching colour flow makes pieces that will liven up any space. We especially love highlighting this feature with patterns that play with colour direction.

Parquet uses a modular knitting technique to create a beautiful mosaic pattern. The resulting throw is one you'll want to reach for and use every day. Better yet, enhance your wardrobe and wear it as a wrap!

This throw/wrap is made up of 12 identical blocks which are then crocheted together. An applied I-cord is added during finishing.

Finished Size: approx. 36” x 46” / 91 x 123 cm, blocked

YARN:
7 balls Berroco Sesame ($25.98/210m/100g) [colour shown is discontinued]
OR
9 balls Berroco Millefiori – in stock ($20.98/170m/100g)

This pattern is available for free.

Needles:
4.50 mm (US 7) knitting needles
4.50 mm (US 7) double pointed needles for I-Cord edging
4.50 mm (US 7) crochet hook for joining

Gauge: 16 sts and 32 rows = 4” in Garter St; each “Corner” square = 6” / 15 cm square.

To order: While we do stock Sesame, the quantity needed to make this project will have to be ordered. So, you can come in or call in (519-474-0403) with the name of yarn, colour number and number of balls needed.

About the yarn…

SESAME is a gorgeous, self-patterning, worsted weight blend of wool, acrylic, cotton, and nylon. Each of these fibres takes the dye differently, producing an interesting marbled effect. Sesame has a slight sheen and tiny little bobbles and flecks that run through the yarn adding to the texture and giving it a subtle tweedy effect

Sesame is multi-textured and multi-coloured treat to work with! It comes in big 100 gram ball with a generous 210m/230yds of yarn. And did we mention that it is machine washable?!?

Scarves are always essential for fall. An instant classic – make an impression with this oversized, faux-plaid scarf knit with 4 colours of Vento, one of Berroco’s new Fall yarns.

Don't fret the plaid – this technique is brilliantly easy. The scarf is knit in simple stripes and the vertical colour is woven in at the end through the designated purl stitches. Easy-peasy!!

STARFLOWER

Starflower Blanket: Lace Hexagons Forever!

“The Starflower blanket is both a big project and a small project at the same time. Each charming little lace hexagon is a nice, bite-sized amount of knitting, but when you put them all together, you've got quite the epic knit on your hands!

This blanket combines strong geometries with floral motifs and abundant texture. It looks unreasonably complex, but despite appearances, the hexagons aren't too difficult to knit. Once you've made a few, you'll only glance back at the pattern occasionally.

One Colour or ALL the Colours?
One of my favourite things about the Starflower blanket is how DIFFERENT it knits up in monochrome versus a rainbow of colours. It looks like a completely different pattern!

I'm also smitten with both the right side and the wrong side of this blanket. Each offers a distinct beauty with its own charm. Which one will you choose?!” – quoted from Alexa and Emily at Tin Can Knits

(right side)

(wrong side)

The crisp geometries of this floral blanket will delight you each time you cast off another hexagonal piece…and then once more when you arrange them into a colourful bouquet!
