KNITTERLY INSPIRATION…

Cate dropped into the store last week to share with us her completed Summer Road Trip Shawl. It looks amazing in person and she said it was a fun knit. The intermittent garter ridges and elongated stitches really highlight the assigned pooling effect of the yarn and give some textural interest to the finished fabric.

Cate used one skein of Ancient Arts Socknado in the Lands End colourway. If you would like to make one for yourself, shawl (& kit) details are below.

Thank you, Cate for sharing
your beautiful shawl project with us!
About the Shawl…

SUMMER ROAD TRIP SHAWL
by Caroline Sommerfeld

© Stephanie Seufert

This shawl is perfect for taking along on your holidays, whether you are travelling on the road or enjoying a staycation in your backyard! This simple asymmetric bias shawl is fun to knit and takes advantage of “assigned pooling” (see description below) to introduce some very enjoyable texture and colour that is easy to memorize. This shawl can be knit as either a one or two skein project and if you like you can add an additional optional pop of colour in your final border with a mini skein. This shawl shape is perfect for summer wear as the curve created by the simple shawl shaping hugs your shoulders and keeps the chill off on a cool evening.

The Summer Road Trip Shawl is designed to be worked with “assigned pooling”. Assigned pooling requires a colourway that has a distinct (and preferably unique) colour section that stands out from the rest of the skein. For best results this colour section should strongly contrast with the rest of the skein. The length of the colour section should be at least 20cm (8”) but should take up no more than ¼ of the total circumference of the skein.

About the KITS…

This lovely shawl is designed in Ancient Arts’ versatile Socknado yarn, which is a soft and luscious blend of 80% Superwash Fine Merino and 20% Nylon. There are beautiful, carefully curated colourways from their collection that are perfect for assigned pooling.

The shawl comes in two sizes, so we can choose either a one-skein kit (small) or a two-skein kit (medium) and all yarn kits include a Ravelry Code for the pattern.

Choose from the following Kit colourways & two sizes…

**NOTE: If you’ve already purchased a kit with the pattern and you want to knit a second (or third) shawl, the yarn can be purchased separately.

KIT SIZES:
Small – $40 (1 skein and pattern)
Medium – $73 (2 skeins and pattern)
** Each KIT includes a Ravelry code for the Pattern and the amount of Yarn required.

Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows = 4”; gauge is not crucial for this project but significant differences may change the size of your shawl and yardage needed.

Needles: 3.50 mm x 60 cm (US 4 x 24”) circular or size needed to achieve gauge

Yarn:
1 (2) skeins Ancient Arts Socknado (350m/385yds/100g)
1 mini skein contrast colour of fingering weight yarn (70m/76 yds) – optional

TO PURCHASE: come in or call in (519-474-0403) to obtain your kit (or yarn) today!

BERROCO DROPSHIP OFFERING…

For any not familiar with Berroco’s DropShip service, this means that through London Yarns we can order ANY Berroco yarn, in ANY colour, and in ANY quantity (no minimums, no maximums). And if we order yarn for a specific Berroco project, they will include the printed pattern free of charge, even if they usually charge for the PDF.

So, if there is a Berroco yarn that you would like to work with, feel free to place your order with us.

**Please note: Because the DropShip program is a ‘special order’ program, we require payment at time of ordering and all sales are final.

East Brewster uses two shades of Berroco Modern Cotton to create a wrap with stripes and a little bit of lace at the edges. The shawl begins with the borders worked in Lace Pattern. Stitches are then picked up along the side edge of one border to begin the body of the shawl, and then the live stitches are grafted onto the side edge of the second border to finish. Lace Pattern is written in text, no charts.

Finished Size: approx. 22" wide x 72" long

Yardage: 1338 m / 1463 yards of Worsted Weight Yarn (#4)

YARN:
Modern Cotton ($13.98/198m/100g):
4 skeins for main colour; shown in #1601 Sandy Point
3 skeins for contrast colour; shown in #1611 Rocky Point

**Modern Cotton can be ordered in any colour and in any amount, with no minimums.

Want to use an in-stock yarn? Check out our selection of Worsted Weight yarns here.

This pattern is available for free.
