NEW & NEWS

Monday, August 15, 2022 – Always Something New!

We hope that this email finds you as well as can be and enjoying the remaining days of Summer. We have a few new offerings to share with you today, and…whether we like it or not, Berroco is looking ahead to the Fall/Winter season with SIX brand new yarns!

Enjoy your read through!

BRAND NEW…

Is it a yarn bowl? NO! It’s a yarn BOX, with a cover!

What is a yarn box? Good question!

A yarn box sits flat and keeps your yarn clean and under control while knitting or crocheting. And it is as attractive as any bowl!

LYKKE Yarn Boxes are handmade with tongue and grove construction from sustainably sourced wood and comes with a cover that slides securely into place.

A yarn box is convenient to work from…with cover in place, use the pretty cutout on the front of the box to feed your yarn through; and if you need to remove your yarn or change colours, your yarn is not stuck in the box until the end of the ball! The cutout starts at the top edge of the box, so just pull the cover off and remove your yarn, it’s that easy!

This yarn box is a good size…it is large enough to hold a dragon egg-200gram ball of Noro Ito yarn with the cover closed (or multiple smaller balls).

BOX MEASUREMENTS:
Outer dimensions: approx. 17.2cm (6¾”) wide, 14.4cm (5¾”) high, and 17.2cm (6¾”) deep.
Inner dimensions: approx. 15.2cm (6”) wide, 12.8cm (5”) high, and 15.2cm (6”) deep.

LYKKE YARN BOX – $74.98 each

Available in two finishes – choose from an exquisite light Mango Wood (shown above) or a striking, darker Indian Sheesham Rosewood (shown below).

And that is not all! Lykke also included a beautiful matching Mango Wood or Rosewood yarn gauge/needle sizer/ruler tool (shown below) for our enjoyment; after all, their slogan is “Make Happy”.

TO ORDER: We have one of each box in stock for you to view and we are now accepting orders for these Lykke Yarn Boxes. Come in or call in with your payment information & order yours today! $74.98 each.

Perfect for your new heirlooms: colourwork, lace, and more. Made in Peru; 28 shades.

RENEW (in warehouse & available to order now!)A yarn so effortlessly elegant, so buttery soft, that we almost forgot it is eco-friendly too. VENTO – A sophisticated modern yarn with beautiful drape perfect for making light airy garments and warm soft accessories. The silky soft Baby Alpaca gives this yarn a gorgeous halo with a subtle two-tone effect that pops in jewel tones and creates depth in elevated neutrals. Made in Peru; 11 shades.

WIZARD – Bold happy colours flow through this chunky weight (#5) yarn that is so light it feels weightless. The magic comes from the chainette construction of this blend of 85% Superwash Extrafine Merino Wool, 15% Nylon. Made in Italy; 8 colours.

If swatching isn’t your thing, then here are three patterns ideas…

Because this pattern is so adaptable, it will work great with your Yarn Tasting Kit!!

The BLT (Basic Lace Triangle) scarf/shawl is designed for a beginner with the option of beading. It uses a simple repeating pattern and is great for learning how to use a chart. There are no difficult stitches used. The pattern is fully written and charted.

The BLT can be made to any size with any weight yarn. You can choose to do a ton of diamonds with just a touch of mesh, a few diamonds with lots of mesh, or any other ratio that you find pleasing. The pattern works well with self-striping yarn, solids, and variegates.

‘My goal was to use up as much of the yarn as possible in plain stockinette stitch. That way you can really get a good feel for each one of them. The result was a fun and useful project using our Fall Yarn Tasting Kit!

There are increases or decreases when joining each new yarn to make up for the difference in gauge. Use any leftover yarn to make some fun tassels! The finished shawl is small which is perfect to tuck in at the top of my jacket this fall!’ - Asa Buchta

‘For all you crocheters out there, I wanted to make an easy and versatile slouch hat pattern using the Berroco Fall home yarn tasting kit. I arranged the yarns in order from heaviest to lightest, and to account for the different gauges when transitioning from one yarn to the next, you work a decrease round.

The heavier yarns have less yardage, so for those especially I wanted to be sure and use up all the yarn, so I didn’t worry about ending those at the end of a round, instead, I just switched to the next yarn wherever the yarn happened to run out. If you’d like to use up every bit of the yarns, I’d invite you to try the cowl version instead.’ - Alison Green

MKAL OFFERING…

Welcome to Casapinka’s 2022 Annual Summer Mystery Knit-A-Long (MKAL)! A 6-week ‘Sharon From Security’ interpretation of The Golden Age of Air Travel. Fasten your seatbelts because it's going to be a heckofa ride!

Do you want to join in the FUN?
Here’s how...

Project: A Shawl, one size but easily extendable; this is a new shape of shawl for us and rather uncommon.

Yarn Requirements/Information
  • Four skeins of fingering weight (#1) yarn with min. 365m/400yd each
  • You can fade, use variegated, tonal, speckled, colourblock, whatever you want.
  • You can mix and match brands of yarn as well as fibre content of yarn.
  • This is a shawl shape I've never done before!

** Feel free to browse our fingering weight (#1) or sock weight (#1) yarns in store, or on our website. And, if you need assistance putting some colours/yarns together, we would be happy to help.

Yardage: 365m/400yd in EACH of 4 colours of fingering weight (#1) or sock weight (#1) yarn.

Pattern: Ravelry purchase of approx. $16.15 CDN

Gauge: 20 sts = 4” in Stockinette after blocking

Needle: 4.00 mm (US 6)

The Sharon Air MKAL has only just started on August 12, so we still have time to jump aboard the MKAL flight! The schematic for colour planning is now available, and included with pattern purchase.

‘Sharon Air is not just a knitting pattern; it is an experience with Sharon From Security (pictured in the above logo.) The ticket to board is $2 per week so if that airfare is worth it to you, please join us. If you’ve lost your knitting mojo (and it seems a lot of people have), this may just help you get it back! You will also enjoy our weekly surprises of recipes for different things and as usual, we ask you to trust us and not over-analyze it or try to get us to spill the beans.’ –
quoted from Ravelry pattern page

‘We will have 6 clues over 6 weeks…or maybe we’ll give you a week off in the middle. This is a new shape of shawl for us and rather uncommon. It wraps nicely and can be made longer. It is suitable for the intermediate beginner. There is some relaxing knitting and some pay attention knitting but Sharon the cat really loves her “Sharon Snax” (a Sharon Snack is a mistake that you ignore because you can’t see it from a speeding car). So all of you perfectionists who are trying to reform, Sharon’s patterns are great for that! We do not aim for perfectionism here - go to the mall for clothes if that’s what you’re after!’ –

Yarn & Colour Guidance
4 skeins of fingering weight or sock weight (#1) yarn (365m/400yd each)

You don’t need to use all of the same brands or fibres; you can mix wool and silk, wool and nylon, etc.

You can use any 4 colours of fingering weight (#1) or sock weight (#1) yarn. Your colours can be a fade, variegated, colour blocked, whatever you want. A few sections will require contrast but you will have enough yarn to alter the assigned colour when you get there so don’t get hung up on that. You don’t need a lot of contrast for this shawl.

Have a look at this fun yarn…
