ROAD TRIP KAL
Monday, July 11 – Road Trip KAL
We are inviting all knitters to join Caroline and the staff from Ancient Arts for an easy and fun Summer Knit A-Long!
The Summer Road Trip Knit A-Long (KAL) will run for 5 weeks from Friday, July 15th to August 19th.
The Ancient Arts Knit A-Long group will have two ZOOM meetings and there will be fantastic PRIZES!!!
The KAL will start with a ZOOM Cast-On Party on Friday, July 15th at 7 pm MST (9 pm EST). There will be a second ZOOM meeting about halfway through the KAL, on Friday August 5th at 7pm MST (9 pm EST).
The final pattern will be released on August 19th and Ravelry users will be sent an automatic update through Ravelry.
About the Shawl…
The Summer Road Trip Shawl is designed to be worked with “assigned pooling”. Assigned pooling requires a colourway that has a distinct (and preferably unique) colour section that stands out from the rest of the skein. For best results this colour section should strongly contrast with the rest of the skein. The length of the colour section should be at least 20cm (8”) but should take up no more than ¼ of the total circumference of the skein.
About the KITS…
We have pre-ordered ALL TEN Kit colourways to have in-hand and on the needles prior to the start of this KAL, so that we, as Knitters, can prepare for the KAL by prepping our yarn and working a gauge swatch.
This lovely shawl is designed in Ancient Arts’ versatile Socknado yarn, which is a soft and luscious blend of 80% Superwash Fine Merino and 20% Nylon. There are 10 beautiful, carefully curated colourways from their collection that are perfect for assigned pooling.
The shawl comes in two sizes, so we can choose either a one-skein kit (small) or a two-skein kit (medium) and all yarn kits include a Ravelry Code for the pattern.

Instructions for the KAL
Prepare for the KAL by prepping your yarn and working a gauge swatch. Purchase the pattern on Ravelry now using your coupon code. Your pattern will update on the morning of July 15th which marks the start of the KAL and then you can dive right in and start knitting!

Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows in 10cm/4”
**Gauge is not crucial for this project but significant differences may change the size of your shawl and yardage needed.
Needles: 3.50 mm x 60 cm (US 4 x 24”) circular or size needed to achieve gauge
Yarn:
1 (2) skeins Ancient Arts Socknado (350m/385yds/100g)
1 mini skein contrast colour of fingering weight yarn (70m/76 yds) – optional

Each handmade Pin and stick are comprised of a distinct natural wood, sanded and smoothed and treated with a mineral oil finish. Each one is a work of art and unique to the individual characteristics of the wood they are made from.
The Rustic Stick has an artistic touch of bark intact on the top of the stick to add interest and authenticity to the nature of the wood; stick measures approx. 5½” in length.
The Pins measure approx. 3” in diameter with the centre opening measuring approx. 1¼” diameter.
