PRE-ORDER PALOOZA

Monday, June 6, 2022 – Pre-Order Palooza

As the title of today’s email suggests, we are offering some new, and some limited edition colourways for pre-order. The pre-orders enable us to reserve enough of each colourway with Ancient Arts to make happy all of you who want to take advantage of this particular opportunity to have and to work/play with these colourways – each one is a ‘piece of art’ in and of themselves.

So, without further ado, we will have Ancient Arts introduce this week’s email…

“We can’t believe that it is June already! This month our Cross Canada Road Trip takes us to what is known as “the Honeymoon Capital of the World.” In 1801, the daughter of US Vice President Aaron Burr and her new husband (Theodosia Burr Alston and Joseph Alston) were the first recorded couple to honeymoon at Niagara Falls, and this spectacular location has been a tourist destination ever since.”

“What is known as Niagara Falls is actually a group of three waterfalls on the Niagara River, between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. The American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls are on the American side of the international border, while the much larger Horseshoe Falls is mostly on the Canadian side. Horseshoe Falls is about 57m (187 ft) high and 790m (2590 ft) wide and is the most powerful waterfall in North America, with a peak flow rate of 6,400 cubic m (230,000 cubic feet) per second. Spectacular, eh?”

“NIAGARA FALLS, ON” COLOURWAY
This LIMITED EDITION colour
is now available for pre-order...
we only get ONE chance
to order this colour,
so don’t miss out!

Pre-Ordering deadline is Saturday, June 11, 2022.

This is a fun colourway that encompasses the atmosphere of the falls including the different shades of the rushing blue water as it cascades over the grey rocks, with the browns of the trees (and barrels) near the falls and the white mist that obscures the base of the Falls as well as the deep shadows to the sides of the Falls, and a touch of red for the rain ponchos that are worn by the passengers on the Maid of the Mist but also makes us think of some of the tourist attractions that are so ‘old timey’ and very vividly decorated.

The “Niagara Falls, ON” Colour of the Month colourway is dyed on Ancient Arts Socknado base, in fingering weight (#1). Made of 80% Superwash Fine Merino Wool and 20% Nylon with 350m/100g; $32.98 each.

To Pre-Order: call us at 519-474-0403 with your name and payment information and number of skeins needed. Pre-Ordering deadline is Saturday, June 11, 2022.

About Niagara Falls…

The amazing power of the falls, and their awe-inspiring beauty led preservationists to recognize that steps had to be taken to protect the area, and in 1885 both New York state and the Province of Ontario enacted legislation to create parks in the area surrounding Niagara Falls. Then in 1950, a treaty signed by both countries limited water usage by power plants. The Niagara River Treaty was designed to provide a visually impressive “unbroken curtain of water” flowing over the Falls for the tourists, while still allowing water to be diverted at nighttime and in winter for power generation.

Even at its lightest, the minimum flow is still 1400 cubic metres (49,000 cu ft) per second. The sheer force of the water flowing over the crest of the Falls generates a current rate of erosion of about 30cm (one foot) per year. That means that in 50,000 years, the Falls will have eroded back to Lake Erie and ceased to exist.

But until that happens, there are many ways to view the spectacular natural beauty of the Falls. You can take a walking tour behind the Falls, view them from the base on the Maid of the Mist, see them from all angles during a helicopter ride, view them from the Skylon Tower Observation Deck, or take a Zipline across the Niagara Gorge towards Horseshoe Falls (you have to keep your eyes open though!)

When you get tired of the water spray and the noise of roaring water, you can head to one of the many floral gardens in the area. Did you know that Niagara Falls is the Daffodil capital of North America? (Nope, we didn’t either.) There is also the Butterfly Conservatory, the Bird Kingdom, and for the amusement park aficionados, the Clifton Hill Amusement park. You can even walk across the Rainbow Bridge for a quick visit to the American side, but you have to pay a toll and make sure all your paperwork is in order!

This next colourway from Ancient Arts has been so popular that it sells right out of the box, so much so that it hasn’t even hit the shelf yet! So, to give one and all an opportunity to work with this fabulous colourway, we are now taking pre-orders so that our next shipment will satisfy the masses, hopefully with a few skeins left over to put on the wall with the rest of our Ancient Arts yarn selections.

SCOTTISH MIST

Scottish Mist was inspired by the magical beauty of the mists filling the Scottish moors! This stunning colourway will wisk you away on a wonderful adventure, without even having to buy a plane ticket!
