Fleece, fleece and more fleeces! For all you fleece lovers out there…we’ve been able to source out some fantastic fibres for you, including some very rare qivuit. Use these fibres for thrumming mittens, thrumming slippers, spinning, needle felting or whatever you can dream of doing with it. These new rovings are now in-stock and sold by the gram, so you can purchase just the right amount that you need for your project.

About the colourway…
The next stop on our cross Canada Road trip is Rouleau, Saskatchewan – better known as Dog River, the fictional home of Corner Gas and Ruby’s Café. This small prairie town east of Moose Jaw was the filming location for the wildly popular sitcom Corner Gas, which ran on CTV from 2004 to 2009, spawned a feature film in 2014, and an animated series that ran from 2018 to 2021. This quirky little Canadian comedy was so popular that tourists came from as far away as Japan and Europe to visit the town, see the set and walk the streets of Dog River!

Much of the set is gone now, as the Corner Gas station and Ruby’s Café had to be torn down in 2016. They were only built as TV sets and the buildings were sinking into the boggy ground so the decision was made to demolish them. The Dog River grain elevator is also gone, and sadly, some of the other buildings used for the exterior shots have fallen into disrepair. Although there is a self guided walking tour around the town that takes you to the various locations used in the show, you can still visit Dog River without leaving home. LOL - appropriately enough for a virtual road trip, there is an interactive virtual tour of Rouleau available online!
April 13th is Corner Gas Day!
Corner Gas was (and still is) such an iconic representation of life-in-a-small-prairie-town, that in 2009, the provincial government of Saskatchewan designated every April 13th to be “Corner Gas Day.” We did not know that when we picked Corner Gas as the inspiration for our April Colour of the Month, but the quirky co-incidence is definitely in keeping with the heart and soul of Dog River!

Our April Colour of the Month has the yellow of the Corner Gas sign, the red from Ruby’s Café, the green prairie grass, the yellow gold of the prairie wheat fields, the blue of an endless prairie sky, and even a touch of grey for Oscar’s sidewalk. (If you know, you know!)
