Another Note from Janet...
Greetings One & All
First and foremost, I just wanted to reach out to all of you with a huge “thank you” for your thoughts, well wishes and concern for my Mom Katy Lou and my husband Darrell. As I mentioned in last week’s email, both of them are recuperating from Covid. I was overwhelmed by the dozens of email replies, telephone calls and “drop in” visits to the store to wish them both a speedy recovery. I am happy to report that both of them are improving every day. It has been a long 7 weeks, but we are moving in the right direction for sure! Both Katy Lou and Darrell were touched very deeply by your outpouring of support. Thank you all, from all of us!
Last week I mentioned that London Yarns was going to announce ways that we are going to support the environment, the planet, and Earth Day, April 22nd, 2022. As you can imagine, a yarn store generates a HUGE amount of plastic. Each individual colour of yarn that comes into the store is wrapped in a plastic bag (usually 5 or 10 balls per) and as they are put onto our shelves, we are left with hundreds of plastic bags in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes, the entire shipment box itself, (especially the orders coming from overseas) is completely wrapped in plastic. I assume that this is done to protect the very precious cargo inside from dampness, etc., but I have always felt that this is such a waste and so “not good” for our planet. Years ago, I did some sleuthing and found out how I could go about recycling this large amount of plastic, and was surprised and happy to find out that several building centres in London would accept it and recycle it properly. Ever since, I have been bundling up all the bags and taking them over to Lowe’s Building Centre on Fanshawe Park Road. On Friday, I had Cheryl take a photo of me just before we closed with my load of plastic that I was dropping off at Lowe’s on my way home. It makes me feel SO good to know that it is being disposed of properly and not ending up floating around in the ocean.
Of course, we will always encourage you to throw some re-usable bags into your car and bring them in with you so that you will always have one at the ready for your next shopping spree here at the shop!
Hopefully, our plan will be in place and in full swing by Earth Day on April 22nd and we will keep reminding you in future emails about our bag policy and how it is unfolding and progressing.

We can appreciate that ‘pre-orders’ are not nearly as fun as being able to run into the store and pick something up off the shelf to go home with, but with the current ‘supply & demand challenges’ and ‘shipping issues’, it has become a necessary way of business in dealing with our suppliers to assure delivery of products.
