SEASONAL TRANSITIONS

Monday, March 14, 2022 – Seasonal Transitions

Are you feeling the itch of spring fever? It can be challenging this time of year, while we still need the warmth of a hat & scarf (as this past weekend just showed) but at the same time, we want to change over to lighter weight projects. So, in today’s email, we will be covering the best of both scenarios.

We have some quick knit accessories, worked with a worsted weight yarn and then three unique shawls knit in fingering weight yarn to share with you today. Shawls are an essential item to have in your wardrobe, especially as the seasons change!

So, first up is a newer yarn from Berroco, called Lucca.

Have you ever noticed just how quickly a yarn can disappear from the market? Just when it becomes your ‘favourite go-to yarn’, then ‘POOF!’ it’s discontinued by the manufacturer. Well, while LUCCA is still a relatively new yarn, it’s one you don’t want to miss out on!! So, plan ahead for projects now and even for next Fall – Lucca projects will make wonderful gifts for your loved ones.

Why not wrap your friends & loved ones
in cashmere - to wear now,
and for next Fall/Winter?
Berroco Lucca is a soft and buttery cashmere and cotton yarn. Beautiful stitch definition and soft drape makes this a perfect luxury yarn.

Lucca is a worsted weight (#4) yarn, perfect for t-shirts, shawls, accessories and more. With a nice variety of 9 colours, you can make so many combinations!

We have some colours in stock, others can be ordered through us via DropShip.

Of course, if you like any of these patterns, but want to work with a different yarn or fibre, feel free to choose from our entire worsted weight (#4) yarns selection.

A Shawl Trifecta!!
Shawls are a wonderful ‘transitional’ garment. They add some warmth when needed, but aren’t overly warm and can be worn in a variety of ways, depending on how much warmth you want, or don’t want. So, here are three shawl patterns, each offers their own intrigue and skill level.

Waveform is a textured knit using very simple 2-stitch cables and twisted stitches to create undulating waves of texture.

Waveform is a generously sized triangular shawl that required approx. 200g of sock/fingering weight (#1) yarn, although you could make it in any weight, and if you have yarn left over there are instructions for making it even larger.

Suitable for adventurous beginners, intermediates and experts alike.

Finished Size: 72” wingspan x 23” deep (adjustable)

Yardage: min. 724 mtrs (790 yds) of Fingering weight (#1) yarn

Pattern: We can purchase this pattern on your behalf for approx. $5.66 CDN and have it emailed directly to your inbox.

Gauge: 22 sts and 32 rows = 4” in stocking st (though not crucial)

Needle: 3.50 mm x 80 cm (US 4 x 32”) circular

In-Stock Yarn Suggestions:

Note: it’s suggested to use a solid or subtle semisolid to make the texture pattern stand out and be more defined – but that’s totally up to you!

Skills required or to learn:
You must be able to knit into the back of a stitch, purl into the back of a stitch, do a 2-stitch cable, k2tog, k2tog tbl (through the back), kfb (double increase), kfbf (triple increase).

ANTHE MOSAIC SHAWL
by Natasja Hornby

Of course the main feature of beautiful Anthe is her luscious mosaic flower border, but she has so much more.

Indulge yourself in the lovely, wearable crescent shape, the rhythmic colourwork bands, the cushy texture, and the endless opportunities for colour play. Knitting Anthe is great fun, and when you don’t mind turning a lot of heads, wearing it will delight you for sure.

Anthe is a large crescent shaped shawl that is worked from the top down starting with a classic garter tab.

The beautiful colourwork bands are achieved by Mosaic knitting, a very simple and enjoyable technique that allows you to work every row with one strand only. In the pattern you will find an explanation on Mosaic knitting and reading the Charts.

NOTE: The Mosaic colourwork is CHARTED ONLY.
