For all you hockey fans out there, this week we are featuring ‘a hat trick’ (aka 3 projects in one email)! And yes, that does actually include a hat. :0
Our first feature is a unique and stunning ‘puzzle blanket’ from Berroco. Next, we have a brand new Knit-A-Long (KAL) and then, just for fun, a Snow Bunny hat.

A Knitters Puzzle
Berroco’s Ailis blanket is an intriguing visual puzzle but couldn't be simpler to make. Using increases and decreases in strategic ways you create a blanket that is both fun to knit and to look at. Can you guess how it's started just by looking at it?

Gauges:
12 sts and 16 rows = 4” in St st
12 sts and 24 rows = 4” in Garter St
Needles: Two 8.00 mm x 80 cm (US11 x 32") circular needles or size to obtain gauge
To order: list kit name, colour of Lanas Quick and number of skeins for each colour. For example: Ailis, #77200 Blue Ribbon and #77205, 8 skeins of each colour.
About the yarn…
Lanas Quick is fabulous! Made from 100% Pure Wool, this is our favourite go-to bulky weight yarn (#6) in a natural fibre. Made from a special blend of South American wools, Lanas Quick is a classic yarn with a soft touch and beautiful luster, presented in a lovely range of heathers and colour-injected mélange shades. Made in Peru.

Starting February 1st, Malabrigo is hosting an online KAL and has invited all of us to ‘knit-a-long’ with them.
Whether you want to ‘knit-a-long’ or ‘knit-a-lone’ on your own, it is a beautiful wrap to make and a stunning one to wear! The chosen project for this KAL is the La Mondiola Wrap. Here are all the details so far…

The “La Mondiola Wrap” was designed by the Malabrigo team especially for this KAL.
Finished Size: 19”/48cm wide x 80”/203cm long, after blocking
Sport / Light DK weight yarn:

Gauge: 22 sts and 31 rows = 4" in Stockinette Stitch, unblocked
Needles: 4.50 mm x 80 cm (US7 x 32”) circular needle, OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE**
**TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE – gauge is crucial in this project. Changes in gauge might result in different yardage requirements. So, if in doubt, purchase a little extra yarn and give yourself some ‘breathing room’, rather than playing ‘yarn chicken’….FYI – the chicken usually wins!! :0
Techniques used to knit this wrap:
- Increase with yarn over
- Double Central Decrease
- Slip stitch pattern
- Elastic Bind off

And just for fun…
Ready to add (or brush up on) Fairisle knitting to your arsenal of knitting techniques? “Snow Bunnies” is a whimsical knitted hat made with worsted weight yarn (#4). Because no more than two colours are used at the same time, this is a great project for first explorations in the world of Fairisle, or to brush up on and hone your Fairisle knitting skills. The pattern is fully charted, knit in the round seamlessly, and worked from the bottom up. For an added touch of fun, add a big fluffy yarn pom-pom on top! Or a faux-fur ‘bunny-like’ pompom would be in keeping with the theme of the hat too.
