30 YEARS ON THE 30TH - THISTHURSDAY!!!
Monday, Sept. 27, 2021 – 30 Years on the 30th, This Thursday!
Greetings one and all!
It has been an absolute pleasure writing to you each week for the past few weeks while Patti-Ann and the gang have been on their well-deserved vacations. Patti-Ann will be back this week on Tuesday so I thought that today I would share the plans for the store going forward and remind all of you that this Thursday, September 30th marks the completion of 30 years for London Yarns under the ownership of myself and my Mom, Katy Lou. I still cannot believe that it has been that long.... wow does time fly!
This 30 year milestone simply cannot go unnoticed, and as such we have been busy planning many an event for you all to enjoy. With current restrictions and a limit of 3 customers in the store at any one time, we cannot host a formal “Open House” as such, but we do hope to do so in the future as vaccinations keep rolling out and Covid infections decrease.
The special events will start very soon and probably carry on into December and the new year. You can all plan to be treated to special one-of-a-kind kits created with the anniversary theme in mind as well as many, many door prizes to be won by you, our customers! There has been an incredibly generous outpouring of door prizes graciously donated by all of our wonderful suppliers as they help us celebrate and I will be providing a list of all of these wonderful companies in an upcoming email. Our incredibly talented dyers have been busy creating unique custom dyed colourways for our 30th Anniversary theme as well and these colours will be exclusive to London Yarns. Watch our Monday emails very carefully as you will not want to miss a single minute of the many celebrations, membership promotions, and of course the chances to win one of these fabulous prizes!
Here is where it all began:
This photo shows the original store front back in 1991 when we purchased London Yarns. The shop was located in the side plaza of Masonville Mall on North Centre Road across the parking lot from where the Canadian Tire used to be before they moved to Hyde Park. I remember the time all too well; I started working at the shop a month or so before the closing date to “get my feet wet” so to speak and two weeks before closing, my poor husband fell off the ladder at home and shattered his ankle into a million pieces! He needed surgery and was unable to work and in for a very long road to recovery. There I was, taking over a store that was open 11 1/2 hours a day and then coming home to care for poor Darrell, tackling housework, yard work, and trying to figure out how to run this small business! As the old saying goes; “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
I would like to share some more stories of the history of London Yarns and the antics of my Mom and I with all of you in upcoming emails and I will attach these articles to the emails for you to view if so desired. Again, thank you all so much for a wonderful 30 years.
