Can you believe that we are almost to the middle of July?!?! Everyone seems extra busy these days, taking in as much of summer as we can while it lasts. So today, in the interest of brevity, we are featuring a little bit of ‘this & that’, sample balls and uniquely dyed yarns for those ‘one or two skein projects’ – great for ‘on the go’ knitting, crocheting & making.

Our craft is normally a tactile one. But Covid lockdowns have necessitated new methods of purchasing our beloved fibres, namely online yarn shopping - which is not exactly ideal for our craft! But for the love of fibre, feeding our creativity and keeping many of us sane, we have adapted, and we commend you for acclimatizing! BRAVO!!

Aerial Color - Our superkid mohair and silk lace weight yarn gets a watercolour makeover. Individual strands of this multicoloured yarn can be used alone or along with any of our other yarns for a special colour effect. Made in Italy.
Dulce - Multi strands of colourful fibres are braided together to give a subtle colour effect. The blend of brushed alpaca, cotton, nylon, and wool creates a yarn that is light, warm and easy to work with. Made in Italy.
Lanas Quick - Lanas Quick is a two-ply, bulky weight yarn in a range of heathers and colour-injected mélange shades, using the same special blend of South American wools as the original worsted weight Lanas. Made in Peru.
Lucca - A buttery soft, 50/50 blend of cashmere and cotton in a worsted weight. Beautiful stitch definition and soft drape makes this a perfect luxury yarn. Made in Italy.

“My goal was to use up as much of the yarns as possible on their own in plain stockinette stitch. That way you can really get a good feel for each one of them. The result was a fun and useful project using our Fall Yarn Tasting Kit!

I did end up holding the Aerial Color along with Remix Chunky since it is so lightweight on its own. (I also knew these two yarns are lovely together – the Arrowsic shawl which is made with Aerial and Remix Light is an office favorite!) There are increases or decreases when joining each new yarn to make up for the difference in gauge. Use any leftover yarn to make some fun tassels! The finished shawl is small which is perfect to tuck in at the top of my jacket this fall!” – quoted from Asa Buchta

Here is Caroline's beautiful description of a special place and the peaceful feelings it evokes in her, which are the inspiration for July's Colour of the Month – “Contemplation”:

"After the adventure it’s time to take a breath, stop, and look around. To be in the moment, and to simply enjoy the world around us. This colourway is inspired by many such moments I've spent on Combers Beach out on the west coast of Vancouver Island. This beach is so beautiful with its broad expanses of sand, a creek flowing down to the ocean, and the wildness of the trees, shrubs, and flowers that surround it. The trees are bent and shaped by the wild winds of winter storms and the driftwood logs on the beach form patterns that change from year to year as they are tumbled about. When the fog rolls in from the water it’s like the whole world there pauses. Everything is still and peaceful. The colours of the water, the trees, the logs and sand, and the plants peek through the soft grey/white fog; almost mesmerizing in their beauty. It’s one of my most favourite places in the world and it’s where I spend my most wonderful mindful moments. I hope you enjoy this colourway as much as I do those moments of peace!"
