In today’s email we are making good use of Berroco’s DropShip project program – patterns are included FREE of charge with yarn purchase!
The pattern projects that we are highlighting this week include three Tee’s, a Top & a Cardigan – all for spring & summer wear. Each project suggests using a different Berroco yarn; all of the DK weight yarns are interchangeable between projects (except for the Lourdes Tee – it’s a worsted weight).
**Be sure to verify yardage needed if switching or substituting yarns.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT…
Have you noticed the drastic spike in COVID patients that have needed hospitalization? There are soooo many!! Not to mention non-covid patients in the hospitals too. All of whom cannot be visited by their friends & loved ones….it’s so sad.
BUT, we can help! The ICU at Victoria Hospital is looking for willing Knitters and Crocheters who would be interested in making HEARTS for patients and their families. The hearts are to be made in PAIRS for them to be gifted, one for the patient and one for the family, so that they can hold each other’s hearts, when they can’t be holding hands.
We did this last year with great success and since the need has arisen yet again, we are hoping to contribute for a second time.
This is our chance to make a bit of difference in the lives of those who are distressed at this time. Sometimes it’s a small gesture that can make a deep impact. So, let us share some comfort!
Here’s how:
Hearts can be knit, crocheted, machine knit or sewn and should be approximately 4.5 cm - 6.5 cm in size so that they can fit in the palm of a hand.
The hearts must be made in pairs of a preferred colour of pink, burgundy or red. All colours are ok as long as they are in matching pairs, but pink or red are preferable.
When hearts are completed, place them (in multiples of two) in a ziplock bag. Zip the bag shut and then TAPE the bag closed. Write the date and time on the outside of the bag, so they can ‘quarantine’ the hearts, leaving them in isolation for 72 hours before they are safe to use and bring them into the hospital for the patients and families.
When your hearts are ready to go, place hearts in a ziplock bag, as instructed above. Put them somewhere safe so that they can’t be contaminated…just in case. ***For your convenience, an exterior, contactless drop box will be available to deposit the sealed bagged hearts at London Yarns starting, Tuesday, May 18th, during our current store hours of Tuesday to Saturday from 12 noon to 4pm.***

FAQ’s:
Who: Anyone who can knit or crochet or sew.
What: Make small hearts for others who are alone in hospital. A second identical heart is given to the family.
Can they be any colour?
- Yes, as long as they are in matching pairs. The preference would be red or pink though.
Do I need to wash them first?
- You can. Ensure the hearts are fully dry before bagging them. Please use clean yarn and put them in a bag.
Can I put several hearts in a larger bag?
- Yes, you can. Please be sure they are in matching PAIRS.
Where will the hearts go?
- They will be given to patients at London Health Sciences Centre Hospital.
