TRANSITIONAL PROJECTS

Monday, April 5, 2021 – Transitional Projects

Under the new restrictions, we are able to continue operating in the same manner that we have been, with no changes. We are still OPEN for CURBSIDE PICKUP and delivery, accepting payment over the phone or ‘TAP’ at the door and ‘curbside window shopping’. For updated details regarding how we are operating under the re-adjusted Control zone, please visit our website homepage.

As we transition into Spring, we can experience quite the fluctuations in temperatures! Even if the sun is shining and it seems warm, being in the shade or in the wind can be rather chilly. So the question of the day is, ‘how do we dress for our Canadian spring weather?!?’ The key is layering! Having something to throw over your shoulders, or to wrap up in during those nippy times, but that can then be removed when not needed. Thus, the topic of today’s email is ‘Transitional Projects’. We hope that they may serve you well.

The patterns that we are sharing today range in weight from fingering up to and including aran weight yarns. And, we are offering yarn suggestions for each pattern – one option for a warmer yarn and the other option for a cooler yarn to use. But of course, they are only suggestions, so feel free to choose from any of our in-stock yarns in the appropriate weight (the links are provided) or place an order with us for any of Berroco’s yarns for the project(s) of your choosing.

But before we get to our project features, we have two new yarn announcements…

ANCIENT ARTS YARNS

NEWLY RE-STOCKED! We just received a large order of Canadian-dyed Ancient Arts Yarns! Top row is Little Nettle Soft ($31.98 each), middle 2 rows are Socknado ($32.98 each), and bottom row is Colour Story Yarns, hand-painted in Peru ($25.98). All the new colours have all been professionally photographed and are currently being added to our website.

NOW IN-STOCK!

REMIX LIGHT
22 marvelous colours now in-stock!!

Remix Light is a soft, pleasing blend of nylon, cotton, acrylic, silk and linen. The resulting yarn is ideal for comfortable knits, and the machine washability means any garment will be low maintenance and long-wearing. Finished garments are immediately comfy, with the feeling of well-loved jeans or your favorite T-shirt. With its amazing yardage, most projects only take 2 - 4 balls to complete!  Made in France.

Now, first up in the ‘project department’, we have Berroco’s DropShip feature for this week…

A lightweight, classic style fairisle yoke pullover worked with just two colours of fingering weight yarn! The main colour is a solid shade of Berroco Ultra Wool Fine, while the yoke is worked with one shade of Berroco Millefiori Light for easy colourwork – no keeping track of multiple colours required!

“Say hello to Maille! From chilly dawns to sunny afternoons, spring is the seasonal sweet spot for layering, and Bristol’s Maille is the perfect answer to crisp spring weather.” – IG Post

Maille is knit flat from the bottom up in one piece, then divided at the armholes. The end result is a fresh and soft, yet structurally refined cardigan. A luxurious layering piece for every season!

The eye-catching, basketweave pattern adds interest to this turtleneck poncho, formed from two rectangles that are seamed at the shoulders. Side edges are not seamed, but left open, so as not to overheat. But of course, you could always seam the sides shut, or better yet, add buttons or snaps to close the sides when needed for extra warmth, and then you can undo them when the extra warmth is not needed.

The turtleneck length is completely adjustable…you can even turn it into a crew neck, if you prefer. The simple pattern is easy to memorize, making this poncho a quick and comfy knit.

Welcome spring with this stylish poncho, knit in mainly stockinette stitch with a dramatic cabled border, knit-in fringe and a cozy collar that can button up as a cowl.

Potawatomi is knit flat in one piece from ribbed end to ribbed end with a shaped neckline. Then the ribbed cowl is picked up and knit. A single seam runs up one side from ribbing to neckline.

In the original version, thanks to the fringed edging, every row is worked as a right side row, making the stockinette portion purl free! Or knit from the more traditional “inside-the-box” version, back and forth with a dropped-stitch fringe. This pattern gives you both versions, and each gives you the very same result.

One size, easily modified. Pattern includes guidance for size and collar modifications.

Finished Measurements:
After seaming, fabric forms a folded rectangle 24” x 27” which includes a 3” knotted fringe.
Cowl collar measures 24” around (buttoned) and 6½” deep.
