GIFT CERTIFICATES & WINTER WEAR

Monday, December 7, 2020 – Gift Certificates & Winter Wear

Today’s email is both motivating and enlightening!! Janet has an update on our Gift Certificate procedures, and we have the offer of a full set of ‘winter wear’ to knit, including a pullover, cowl, hat and fingerless mitts.

First up, a note from Janet...

ATTENTION ALL CUSTOMERS!

REGARDING ALL LONDON YARNS

GIFT CERTIFICATES

We are very pleased to announce that
not only are we now able to sell Gift Certificates
from the store in a safe, secure, responsible manner,
but now we can also REDEEM existing paper certificates!

With the holiday season fast approaching, we wanted to make gift giving and redeeming your gift certificates a safe and streamlined process. Here is how these programs work:

Purchasing a NEW Gift Certificate:
Please spread the word to friends and family needing a great gift idea! Simply have them contact us here at the store via phone (519-474-0403) or email (info@londonyarns.com) to arrange the purchase of a new gift certificate. Upon completion of their purchase, they will be emailed a PDF of a Gift Certificate that they can print, fill out and present to the recipient (hopefully you)! Below is a sample of the PDF that will be sent to the buyer of the Certificate (thank you Jen for creating this beautiful purple masterpiece).

To keep everyone safe, the original Gift Certificate will be kept on file here at the store and will be applied to your next purchase, upon your request. No need to use it all at once, we are happy to keep a running “tab” as you chip away at your Gift Certificate Balance.

Have you thought of this??
Please everyone! Feel free to purchase a Gift Certificate for YOURSELF! (in the same manner as described above). By having a gift certificate here on file at the store, it will streamline your shopping experience each time you contact us to place an order. No need to locate your credit card, we will simply deduct the amount of your purchase off of the Gift Certificate each time. Think of it as running a fibre therapy “tab”!

Do you have one of these?

Redeeming an existing, outstanding paper Gift Certificate:
When you call or email us to place your next order, simply let us know the amount of the paper Gift Certificate that you have in your possession that you wish to apply to your purchase. Once your order has been completed and you are ready to collect your merchandise via curbside pick-up, we will ask you to show us the paper certificate through the glass at the door. At that point, simply fold the certificate and put it in the purple box on the table outside of the door. Easy peasey!

If you do not use the entire amount of the certificate in one visit, no problem! We will be happy to redeem your old paper certificate and issue you a new certificate for the balance remaining that will be kept on file here at the store waiting for your next purchase.

On a Personal Note…
With a second wave of the Coronavirus clearly upon us, our sole purpose while doing business is to keep EVERYONE safe; be it customers, staff, friends, and family. I am proud of the way in which we have conducted business over the past 8 months and SOOOO appreciate the co-operation and understanding that all of you, our valued customers, have shown us as we navigate these challenging times the best way that we can, together.

Please remember, we are committed to providing you with everything you need to keep yourself busy and your hobbies thriving as we head into 2021. Please take advantage of our “through the door consultation” service to see and combine colours accurately.

Our website keeps getting better and better each day as Jen and Patti-Ann work tirelessly to keep updating all our current products, along with many new additions. We have received rave reviews from all of you regarding our weekly emails. They are a wonderful way to keep connected and share all the fun, new offerings here at the store. Thanks again to Patti-Ann for the wonderful job she does in putting the emails together every week!

I will be in touch again very soon, and in the meantime, I wish all of you health and happiness.
Please everyone, stay safe out there!

Janet

Berroco is featuring another Indie Designer this week by the name of Martha Wissing. The mosaic yoked pullover that Berroco has chosen is called Schieffelin, knit with Ultra Wool in a worsted weight.

Martha Wissing's Schieffelin features a stunning mosaic knit yoke in two contrasting colours of Ultra Wool. Mosaic knitting looks hard to do but is quite simple in execution. Its textured look is a favourite for all of us at Berroco.

One version of the Schieffelin pullover has a slight A-Line shape with slim sleeves that are flattering on a variety of body types. Instructions are given for two versions. A modern, slight A-Line body and a split hem with ¾ length sleeves (shown) or a traditional straight body and full length sleeves. Both versions are worked seamlessly, in the round from the top down.

The highlight of this simple but elegant pullover is its garter stitch mosaic yoke. Mosaic knitting is a great way to create bold graphical elements without stranded colour work. Choose two colours of yarn with lots of contrast for best results.

To Fit Bust: 32 (36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56)"

Pattern: To be purchased separately. We can purchase the pattern on your behalf through the Ravelry ‘Buy In-store’ feature for $6.00 USD and have it emailed to you.

YARN:
Slight A-Line with ¾ length sleeves (as shown):
BERROCO ULTRA WOOL (100% Superwash Wool, 200m/100g): 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7) balls; shown in #33113 Black Pepper (MC)
BERROCO ULTRA WOOL (100% Superwash Wool, 200m/100g): 1(1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2) ball(s); shown in #33117 Kohlrabi (CC)

OR

Straight Body with full length sleeves:
BERROCO ULTRA WOOL (100% Superwash Wool, 200m/100g): 4 (5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8) balls for MC
BERROCO ULTRA WOOL (100% Superwash Wool, 200m/100g): 1 (1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2) ball(s) for CC

How about a lovely, fun knit, mosaic cowl to compliment your Schieffelin sweater? Have a look at Martha Wissing’s Blanco Cowl…

The Blanco infinity cowl combines mosaic knitting with cushy garter stitch stripes. For mosaic knitting in the round, rounds are worked in pairs, two rounds using the same colour. The next two rounds are worked using the contrasting colour. When changing colours, just carry the yarn – no need to cut the yarn between rounds. Choose two colours of yarn with lots of contrast for best results.

Finished Measurements: 9” x 56” circumference

YARN:
BERROCO ULTRA ALPACA (50% Alpaca, 50% Wool, 200m / 100g); 1 skein each in two contrasting colours. Shown in col. #6299 Lichen Mix (Dark) & col. #6201 Winter White (Light)
OR
BERROCO ULTRA WOOL (100% Superwash Wool, 200m/100g): 1 ball each in two contrasting colours.

Pattern: To be purchased separately. We can purchase the pattern on your behalf through the Ravelry ‘Buy In-store’ program for $6.00 USD and have it emailed to you.

Now that you’ve got a sweater & cowl, all you need is a hat & mitts to have a complete set! So, here you go…

The Steamboat hat is knit from the bottom up, beginning with the ribbing. The blue worsted weight version hat (shown below) has 3” of ribbing and more repeats of the cable pattern. The red worsted weight version has a longer ribbing and fewer repeats of the cable pattern.

Wear with a folded brim for extra warmth or don’t fold the brim to wear with some slouch! The brown chunky weight version is just the right beanie length. Directions are for both worsted and chunky weight yarns.

Finished Measurements:
Ladies hat - 9½ (10½, 8)” long before folding

Yardage: 137 m - 160 m

Pattern: To be purchased separately. We can purchase the pattern on your behalf through the Ravelry ‘Buy In-store’ program for $6.00 USD and have it emailed to you.

These fantastic, cabled mitts are worked in the round from the ribbed cuff up and include a thumb gusset. The back of the hands show off the beautiful cabling, while the palms of these fingerless mitts are knit in stocking stitch. This pattern gives the option of working with either a worsted or chunky weight yarn.

Both the worsted and chunky weight versions of the Steamboat Mitts are worked with the same number of stitches. The chunky weight mitts (shown in brown) are knit with a smaller size needle than usual, creating a warm, dense mitt.
