But for those of you that prefer Crochet, be assured that we haven’t forgotten you!! This week, we are offering a CROCHET-a-long (CAL) for BOTH Crocheters AND Knitters.

Introducing…

This sounds like a fun way to practice knitting, crocheting AND Tunisian Crochet!

This Pattern is Perfect For:
1) Absolute Beginners to both Knitting or Tunisian Crochet
2) Knitters looking to upskill
3) Crocheters looking to show off
4) Bicraftual types
5) Anyone with a special skein of sock yarn lying around and a few hours to spare.
6) Anyone in need of a warmer head.

"OK, folks!
It's the Crochet-Along you didn't know you were waiting for!

Get ready for the Ishrat Hat-Along!

Ishrat is a bicraftual dream. You start with a bit of EASY garter stitch knitting, transition seamlessly into a spot of traditional crochet, then on to the crowning glory that is Tunisian Crochet.

Note about Tunisian Crochet: It is truly the easiest form of crochet for a knitter to pick up. And here's your chance to learn it for free, from a designer with over 10 years experience teaching! Did you know, for instance, that Tunisian uses many of the same increase and decreasing techniques as knitting, involves multiple loops like an average row of knitting, and will be very familiar to you in no time at all?

Each technique is explained in a series of YouTube videos, so if you ever wanted to fill in a gap in your crafty knowledge, this is the project for you.

The 3D shaping is achieved with some slick little graduated decreases, and it's all finished off with a set of hidden seaming stitches you'll love.

Best of all, the pattern is FREE.

You'll find it on YouTube, and as a bonus, you can get a companion written pattern when you join my mailing list.

The pattern is now available, the #CAL will start on the 6th of August, and will run for three weeks, until the 25th of August. Prizes will be awarded at the end.

Prizes!
I have 6 mm @KnitterPride crochet hooks to give away to two lucky winners. These are the hooks I use for all my pattern designing, folks, so you KNOW they're good.

All you need to join in is a skein of sock/fingering weight yarn, 4.5 mm knitting needles, a 6 mm crochet hook and a willingness to post photos of your progress on Instagram!

So... you wanna join in the fun? Course you do!” – quoted from Aoibhe Ni at Yarntowers

Choose from the many
Fingering weight sock yarns listed on our website. Pick your yarn and sign yourself up for the Ishrat Hat CAL on August 6th!

Crochet Inspiration…

Speaking of Crochet, we’ve come across a stunning Crochet Cowl pattern on Ravelry that we thought might inspire our current Crocheters to make, as well as motivate some of our knitters to take up crocheting.

Introducing…

“If you like fun crochet stitch patterns, this pattern is for you! I am always trying to create unique and out of the ordinary stitches that are fun to crochet and not boring, which form stitch patterns that are intriguing to look at.

My Happy Stitches cowl is similar in shape to my other triangular cowls but with a slightly smaller profile. Happy Stitches is very easy to wear, you just drop it over your head and go, with no ends to wrap or to keep in place.

Crocheted with two interesting stitch patterns that open wide with blocking, the cowl fabric has an open mesh design that is perfect for warmer temperatures especially when crocheted with a lightweight warm-weather yarn. Or, you can crochet the cowl with a cozy wool yarn and wear it for warmth in the Winter.

I used the ultra soft and beautiful Illimani Yarn SABRI (437 yards/100 grams, organic cotton/alpaca) for my cowl. Check out their yarn here.

Because this one-skein project is fast and easy it’s perfect for gifting, and you know it is never too early to start crafting gifts for the holiday season!” quoted from CJ Brady’s Ravelry page.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
Knitters and crafters, by tradition, often take to their craft in a way to help others. To bring comfort to those who may need it. To soothe their own spirits when the world gets overwhelming and scary. Heather, Ally, and Amanda are knitters. Each working in a local yarn shop, decided to do just that.

The project begins with a large art installation blanket. One 12-inch square for each soul lost due to Covid-19 in Canada. The blanket, to date will be almost 9000 square feet, and weigh approximately 1500 pounds.

We are calling all knitters across the country to pick up their needles. Together we can create a memorial that can travel through the country, and bring comfort to those who’ve lost loved ones, and to honour the memories of the souls who are now no longer with us.

The names of those we’ve lost will be attached to each square, with the family’s consent, and also published in a memorial book that will travel with the blanket.

Our goal is to be able to display the blanket for the first time in January 2021, the first anniversary of the first presumptive case in Canada. We need to work quickly. We hope you will consider joining us.

The Blanket Pattern Details
Thank you for helping us create this memorial blanket. The loss of so many lives makes us all feel helpless, and it seems unimaginable that these beautiful souls have been lost. We hope this blanket can provide some comfort to the families and loved ones, to know someone took the time to create a square in their memory.

This is a simple square, perfect for beginners. It also allows us to ensure that the name placards can be attached to each square.

MATERIALS:
1 Skein of Berroco Vintage (Worsted Weight) – Any colour can be used for this project; there are more than 80 to choose from. We have dedicated the colour Aquae 5125 to represent Frontline/Essential Workers.
4.5 mm needles or size needed to get gauge (can be knit on straight or circular).

GAUGE: 20 stitches x 27 rows = 4 inches

Finished Measurement of each square: 12 x 12 inches

PATTERN:
(This is the square to be used in the ‘9000 SQUARE BLANKET’)
Cast on 60 stitches.
Knit 6 rows.
Row 1 (RS): Knit all stitches
Row 2 (WS): Knit 5 stitches, purl to the last 5 stitches, knit 5 stitches.

Repeat these 2 rows until the square measures 11.5 inches.
Knit 6 rows.
Bind off. Weave in ends. (no need to leave any ends for seaming)

Alternatively, a second style of Blanket is also being constructed…

BLANKET SQUARES FOR INDIVIDUAL SIZED BLANKETS:
As part of this project, we will be making individual sized blankets for a variety of agencies throughout Canada. These squares can be knit or crocheted, and can use any washable worsted weight yarn. These are perfect for those who would prefer to use up some stash yarn.

Finished Measurement of each square: 12 x 12 inches

NEEDLE/HOOK: If knitting, 4.5 mm. If crocheting 5.0mm.

Any combination of stitches, colours, stripes, and patterns can be used for these blankets.

This is perfect for those who have knit a square for the main blanket and have part of a skein left over, add a fun stripe in a stashed worsted weight for a cheery blanket.

There is no need to block or launder your squares; we will do that as part of the assembly process.

ALL Squares can be mailed to:
