Estelle Yarns in conjunction with Sheila Griffith from Serenity Knits introduces the Hudson Bay Goes Pacific baby blanket / lap throw kit. Cascade Pacific yarn has been specifically selected due to its unbelievably soft blend of acrylic and superwash merino and easy-care features – it’s completely machine washable! The kit comes with 9 balls of yarn, and the complementary pattern which can be downloaded here.

Berroco has, once again, made available to us a “special ONE-TIME order” for 2020 ALAFOSS LOPI ICELANDIC BLANKETS. These blankets are a ‘pre-order’ item, with an expected delivery date of mid to late October 2020.
Now, we know that since we are in the middle of summer and we’ve just come through a heat wave, most of us are not thinking about snuggling into a warm, cozy wool blanket! Mind you, sitting outside last night with a chill in the air, I would have welcomed a Lopi blanket to wrap around my shoulders. And, when the cooler weather hits, a Lopi Blanket will be a cherished addition to your home or wardrobe. Hence, we are giving you advance notice of this offer. You can order your blanket at anytime, starting tomorrow through to September 17th.
This advance notice allows us to consider purchasing a blanket or two and perhaps, to save up to buy a treasured blanket for yourself or as a gift for someone special.
We will send out reminders each month, so as not to miss the deadline.
Lopi Blanket Characteristics:
Alafoss Lopi Interior Blankets are hand-woven with 100% pure Icelandic wool. The blankets are made of 100% pure Icelandic wool and are therefore extremely durable, lightweight, breathable and warm. The fabric is additionally combed after weaving to make it soft. The blankets come in various reversible patterns, colours and textures. Blanket sizes vary depending on the style, but average approximately 51” x 79” in size. (Please see individual styles for exact measurements.)

The wool
The Icelandic wool has been crucial to the survival of our nation as it provided both warmth and protection throughout centuries of harsh weather. It is also quite unique compared to wool of other sheep breeds. The inner fibres are fine, soft and highly insulating while the outer fibres are long, glossy and water repellent. Therefore products made of Icelandic wool are extremely durable, lightweight and breathable.

Unique in its composition, Icelandic wool consists of two types of fibres:
INNER FIBRES = INSULATING: Fine, soft, highly insulating.
OUTER FIBRES = WATER-REPELLENT: Long, glossy, water-repellent.
Together, these two distinctive fibres create a wool that is:
- Lightweight - lighter than most other wools, keeps you warm and comfortable.
- Water-repellent - repels rain and stays feeling dry.
- Breathable - moisture passes through the fibres away from the skin, keeping you dry and comfortable. – quoted from Istex
