KITS, PATTERNS, CLEANERS & CLASSES

Monday, March 16, 2020 – Kits, Patterns, Cleaners, Classes

YES! We are still open for business. We are implementing safe ‘social distancing’ procedures, as well as practicing good cleanliness.
  • All K.N.I.T. Groups are cancelled until further notice.
  • All H.E.L.P. session are cancelled as well, due to the ‘1 metre distance’ rule. And we would kindly ask that if you have a project that you need ‘over the counter help’ with, rather than bring it into the store, perhaps set it aside for now and work on something else until the ‘1 metre distance’ rule has been lifted.
  • We are still taking registration for the Classes in April, though we will continue to monitor the situation closely.
  • We are happy to take your order over the phone and offer ‘curb-side’ delivery or send it to you by mail.
Click this link to see what we are doing to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

And, if you haven’t already read it, Ravelry has a nice write up entitled, “We’re all in this together”, on their home page that is worth a read.

NOTE: Our provider has assured us that they have resolved the problem of the pictures not showing up in our newsletter, especially for gmail users. But, just in case, here is the PDF link.

If any of you continue to experience this issue, of not being able to view the pictures in your email, please let us know.

LAST CHANCE…

The order for the Nightshift Shawl Kits is about ready to be placed, but there is still time! Time is running out, so place your order ASAP! Hurry in or call in to choose your kit colour and join the many of us that will be knitting the Nightshift Shawl using the Cascade 220 Superwash Wave Kits.

Click here for full details about the shawl and the yarn kits available.

Have a look at these cuties….

This is one of the newest Machine Knitting patterns from Judy. She has designed these Teddy’s to be knit entirely on the LK150 knitting machine! The pattern calls for 165 metres of worsted weight yarn, or 165 metres of DK weight, if you prefer a somewhat smaller bear.

The worsted weight Teddy stands about 10” tall when finished; the DK weight Teddy will be just slightly smaller.

The pattern is written with great care and detail, including needle numbers, row counts and helpful instructions.

Hurry in and get your copy today! Teddy bears make such wonderful gifts, especially ones that you’ve made yourself!

NEW LINE OF PATTERNS…
Judy is launching a new line of hand knitting patterns called “Baby Dolls”!

These patterns are her very own designs that she has created to dress the 5-inch ‘Lots to Love’ Baby Dolls (also called Berenguer Dolls). She takes great care with her designs and her intricate attention to detail is evident, not only in how the patterns are written, but even more apparent in the finished knits.

The patterns will be released as individual leaflets as they become available. Here is the first of many to come:

Beret, Dress and Sweater Set

The pattern leaflet for the set includes instructions to knit:
  • Beret
  • Dress
  • Panties
  • Sweater
  • Shoes

Lots to Love Dolls
(also called Berenguer Dolls)

Of course, as you already know, we stock the 5-inch Lots to Love Baby Dolls. These Berenguer Dolls are so life-like with wrinkles and rolls, dimples and chubs; choose from five different facial expressions and two eye colours.

NEW…
GRANDMA’S SECRET SPOT REMOVER, LAUNDRY SPRAY™ (16oz)
‘Grandma knows that you need an extra set of eyes in the back of your head especially when her granddaughter Lisa is “helping out”. So grandma shouldn’t have been surprised when she went into the laundry room and found the floor covered with her little bottles of spot remover. “What is all this?” she asked Lisa. “Grandma, she said, grandpa makes such a mess of his stuff that I kept running out of your secret cleaner.” “I see,” replied grandma “so you need a bigger bottle” and with that in mind grandma created the 16oz laundry spray. Because grandma hates waste as much as she hates dirt.’

Grandma's Secret Spot Remover removes: stamping inks, paints, pencil marks, yellowing, oil, blood, grease and glue. Believe us when we say, it truly works like no other spot remover, doing a terrific job at removing those stains that seem impossible to get out. It is capable of even removing old stains that have been through the dryer. When in doubt, Grandma's Secret Spot Remover will get it out!

Just a spray is all it takes to remove:
Oil, Grease, Paint, Make-Up, Grass, Clay, Inks, Blood, Baby Formula, Tar, Spaghetti Sauce, Coffee, Betadine, Rust, Tumeric, Fabric Bleed, Pet Stains.
…most any kind of STAIN. It works!

Note: A little less concentrated than the Spot Remover, the Laundry Spray saturates easily and penetrates stains. Grandma's Secret Spot Remover Laundry Spray is environmentally safe, biodegradable, non-toxic and contains no chlorine or phosphates. Trigger Dispenser. Made in the USA.

GRANDMA’S SECRET JEWELRY CLEANER™ (3oz)
Give Your Jewelry A Bath Every Day!!

Remember how your jewelry would sparkle and shine when it was new? With everyday exposure to soaps, lotions, body oils and perspiration, your jewelry can lose its twinkle. With daily use of Grandma’s Secret Jewelry Cleaner your jewelry will always maintain its vibrancy and luster. Safe enough to use on your diamonds, precious stones, gold, silver and platinum jewelry (not for use on Pearls). Made in the USA.

Don’t Just Clean Your Jewelry…Make It Sparkle!

Directions: Apply one pump directly onto the surface of the item being cleaned. For most effective use, Grandma recommends using a soft toothbrush daily to remove build-up and residue. Simply spray and brush gently. To restore shine, rinse thoroughly in warm water and blot with a soft cloth.

We are still taking registrations for the classes scheduled to run in April. We are monitoring the situation closely and should we feel the need to cancel them for the safety of all, new dates will be set as soon as the threat has passed.

“ALASKA” FAIRISLE HAT – Learn the “Two-Handed Fair Isle” Knitting Technique
One 3-hour Session
Cost:  $75 (yarn* & pattern included)
Date & Time: Saturday, April 4/20 from 10 am – 1 pm
Teacher: Janet

CLICK HERE to view some of our Class Graduates successful hats!

This is the perfect time of year to knit this beautiful Fair Isle hat!  Join Janet to learn the “Two-Handed Fair Isle" method of knitting colourwork. Unlike stranded Fair Isle knitting, the Two-Handed Method automatically eliminates any floats from occurring on the wrong side of the fabric! This is accomplished as the colour not in use is magically woven in with the colour that is in use. Here is the best part….. Your 2 yarns NEVER GET TANGLED UP! Once you have learned the 3 simple steps to this technique, you can use the Two-Handed Fair Isle method on anything Fair Isle; sweaters, yokes, shawls, wraps, cowls, scarves, mittens, hats, you name it!

The Alaska hat is knit in 2 colours of 4-ply Fingering or “Sock” Weight yarn. Choose from two solids or a combination of solids, tonals, or self-patterning yarns. Knitting this hat is very rhythmic and is a nice project that is light in your hands. The pattern will be provided digitally via email and a working copy will be printed and provided for use during class.

Janet has recently revised the crown shaping for this hat, as shown in the picture. The instructions for this alternate crown shaping will be provided in class. All prior students are welcome to this handout – please ask for it the next time you are in the shop!
(* depending on yarn choice, you may have enough yarn to complete two hats, by reversing the colours for the second hat)

MAGIC LOOP / TWO CIRCULARS FINGERLESS GLOVES
One 2.5-hour Session
Cost: $65 (includes DP-86 Pattern and $15.00 yarn credit)
Date & Time: Friday, April 3/20 from 10 am – 12:30 pm
Teacher: Janet

Do You Hate Double Pointed Needles (DPN’s)?
Learn the Magic Loop and 2 Circular Needle Methods

Do you loathe DPN’s but need to make a small circle? Join Janet to de-mystify the process of knitting small circles using the Magic Loop or 2 Circular Needles. Both circular knitting methods will be practiced right in class as we knit a fingerless glove together. Once you learn these simple techniques, you can use these methods to knit hats or shape the crown of a hat, knit mitts, fingerless gloves, socks, sleeves, necklines… any and all small circles!

Even knitters who are comfortable on DPN’s would benefit from learning these skills. For instance, small motifs knit from the centre out or the toes of toe-up socks are much easier to knit on circular needles. No more DPN’s twirling around each other getting out of order or even worse, falling out on the floor! As well, when you are taking your knitting on the road there is no need to worry about losing one of your DPN’s under the car seat or between the boards of a backyard deck! Sometimes, you may even forget to pack your DPN’s and as your pattern changes, you realize you are without them. If you have your circular needle set with you, you can carry on knitting!
There are many benefits to adding these circular knitting techniques to your knitting portfolio.

NEW DATE!
NIGHTSHIFT SHAWLAnother Installment of “Knit-It with Jan-et”!
One 2.5-hour Session
Cost: $45
Date & Time: Thursday, April 9/20 from 10 am - 12:30 pm
Teacher: Janet

What a fun way to spend the morning! This workshop has been designed to help you get started knitting your Nightshift Shawl.

Join me, Janet and begin the wonderful process of creating this piece of art. Although the pattern is not difficult, there are some techniques that not all knitters might be familiar with. Students can expect to learn the different methods of slipping stitches (or mosaic knitting) on right and wrong side rows, as well as methods of increasing that will produce the nicest looking fabric. One side edge of this shawl is finished with an I-Cord treatment that is knit on as you go. It creates a beautifully smooth hemmed edge with no sewing and looks great from either side!

The I-Cord technique is a super skill to have in your repertoire, as it cleanly finishes the side edges or selvedges of any knitted fabric. In future, feel free to use it on scarves, shawls, throws, cowls or any straight edge that you would like to be beautifully finished. This workshop will prove to be relaxing and fun. I can’t wait to see all of those beautiful colours flowing through our hands!
Rated: All Knitters
Pre-Requisite: Students must purchase the Nightshift Shawl Kit (available in 5 different colourways) from London Yarns ($99.98). We will also purchase a digital copy and print the pattern on your behalf through Ravelry (approx. $10.00).

Join me, Janet, for this 7-session workshop and take your knitting to the next level! Both beginners and seasoned knitters will benefit from and enjoy this workshop. This throw is comprised of 14 different squares; each one unique and fun to knit. Remember, I always say in knitting, “if you can knit and purl, you can do anything”, and this throw proves my point! Each square is knit separately which makes it light in your hand and lap, but the stitches are kept “live” at both the top and bottom of each square. These live stitches make finishing the throw a breeze as ALL OF YOUR SQUARES WILL BE KNIT TOGETHER including the borders eliminating any and all hand sewing! This method of constructing each square will allow you to arrange, organize and experiment with different placement options as you work through the throw. The many techniques featured in this throw will give each student various new skill sets to add to their knitting repertoire that will definitely be useful in many future projects. Students can expect to learn several new stitches and all of the “helpful hints” or “tricks of the trade” that go along with them. So many times, knitters encounter knitting instructions that assume you know the “unwritten rule” that accompanies the technique at hand. We will solve all of these mysteries together!
