Monday, February 24, 2020 – Two New Products & a Treat
Hello and how are you on this Monday? As promised in last weeks email, we have two brand new products to share with you today! And a little bonus as well – Janet has her latest ‘finished object’ to share with us too.
First up is a BRAND NEW interchangeable needle set from Lykke:

Lykke Grove Bamboo
New for 2020
Grove needles are bamboo knitting needles re-imagined. The natural, raw bamboo is treated with LYKKE's Resin Impregnated proprietary process which enriches the bamboo to strengthen and smooth it, as well as adds a splash of green, highlighting the grain and evoking the feeling of bamboo just cut from a grove. The needles are accentuated with tasteful green caps that give a little pop of colour to the set. Needle sizes are laser engraved in both US and metric sizing on the metal caps to ensure long-term readability.

So then, with brand new needles in hand, what should we knit? How about this BRAND NEW yarn from Ella Rae, launched in January 2020…
INTRODUCING…
Marmel is an old English word for “marble”; well named, Marmel is a fantastic new DK weight yarn made from an easy care blend of cotton and acrylic. Marmel is a gradual, self-striping yarn with a cobblestone or “marbled” effect. The fabric produced has a slight ‘thick & thin’, nubbly texture. The beautiful colour variations are produced by two colour-changing plies that create variance between marled and barber pole colourings. An ideal yarn for all types of garments and all season wear!
MARMEL by Ella Rae
Yardage: 250 mtrs / 273 yds / 100 grams
Tension: 21-24 sts = 4” (10 cm)
Suggested Knitting Needle: 3.75 mm – 4.5 mm, US 5-7
Fibre Content: 55% Cotton, 42% Acrylic
Care: Machine Wash, Flat Dry
Ella Rae has provided two patterns, so far, for their Marmel yarn. But of course, you may use it with any DK weight pattern, if you prefer.
Serenity Shawl

This triangle shawl takes just 3 balls of Marmel to complete. Stripes and slipped stitches combined with the multi-coloured Marmel yarn make this showstopper shawl look more complicated than it is. Pattern is free with yarn purchase.

Raelynn Top

The wonderful colours of Marmel yarn do most of the work in this attractive top, which features an easy eyelet yoke and short, drop shoulder sleeves finish it off. Pattern leaflet available for purchase.

And, lastly, here’s a treat for you – Janet’s most recent Finished Object…
A cowl that looks like a shawl, but stays put!
The unique construction of this cowl makes for an interesting but easy knit! It is knit flat at first and then joined in the round to create an actual cowl and the garter stitch border finishes it off nicely.
The distinctiveness of the smocked slip stitches accentuate the changes of colour in the hand paint yarn. Janet knit her Paris in Berlin cowl with 1 skein of Zen Yarn Garden Superfine Glitter.
A note from the designer...
Paris in Berlin is the marriage of a very special yarn (La Bien Aimée) and a very special event (Berlin Knits 2017). I wanted to design a bohemian cowl that looks like a shawl, but is much easier to wear and style.
This pattern was included in the show program and it is available as an in-store download on Ravelry.
The Paris in Berlin Cowl requires only 100 grams fingering weight yarn, with a minimum of 366 mtrs!
Finished Measurements:
23½“ (59 cm) long at deepest point and 23“ (57.5 cm) circumference.
