NEW PATTERN, NEW YARN, NEW BUTTONS

Monday, January 20, 2020 – New Pattern, New Yarn, New Buttons

Have you finished your Wrapped in Lace Shawl?  Do you prefer cables rather than lace?  Either way, we have a NEW SHAWL pattern for you today!

Judy has designed this shawl for machine knitters and Cathy has written the pattern for hand knitters.

Our newest shawl pattern, Wrapped in Cables uses Worsted weight (# 4) yarn.  The finished size, as written, is 20” x 60”, but is easily modified.  Our store model garment was knit with Berroco Vintage.

The shawl consists of a stocking stitch panel bordered with a simple, yet detailed cabled edging - a braided centre cable framed on either side by a easy 4-stitch cable that adds interest to this stunning yet useful shawl.  It is knit flat and seamed on one shoulder.

Dress it up or dress it down with your choice of yarn.  Choose a solid or heathered colour or even a subtle verigated colour might be your preference.   Wear your new Wrapped in Cables shawl indoors or over a coat to dress it up and add extra warmth.

All you hand knitters AND machine knitters…Hurry in to get your copy of Wrapped in Cables.

There is still time to join our MKAL!

Here is a recap:
Need a little project to combat the winter blues?  Or perhaps a little motivation to try something new?  Why not join us as we Knit-Along together three fun & interesting hats?

Many expressed interest but were unable to join us during our November/December MKAL, so we are offering our most recent Mystery Knit-Along (MKAL) once again.

Each of the 6 Clues will be sent out on Monday’s starting February 3rd through to March 9, 2020.

MKAL – ‘A Trio of Hats’
  • 6 weeks
  • 3 hats
  • 3 different construction techniques
  • 3 weights of yarn
Each hat has a different construction technique, a different style, and each hat in the trio uses a different weight of yarn.  Mystery Hat “A” will consist of 3 clues, Mystery Hat “B” will consist of 2 clues, and finally, Mystery Hat “C” will be one single clue – a total of 6 clues, which will be sent out weekly by email on Monday’s, starting February 3rd.  The complete printed patterns (included in the cost) will be purchased from Ravelry and sent to you by email at the end of the MKAL.

The MKAL registration fee of $90 includes: 6 weekly clues, all yarn needed to complete all 3 hats & the purchased Ravelry patterns.

Registration is in progress, so hurry in (or call in) to sign up; choose your yarn, your colours & get ready for some excitement as we collectively make three new hats and knit away the winter blahs!!

This is the perfect time of year to knit this beautiful Fair Isle hat!  Join Janet to learn the “Two-Handed Fair Isle" method of knitting colourwork.  Unlike stranded Fair Isle knitting, the Two-Handed Method automatically eliminates any floats from occurring on the wrong side of the fabric!  This is accomplished as the colour not in use is magically woven in with the colour that is in use.  Here is the best part….. Your 2 yarns NEVER GET TANGLED UP!  Once you have learned the 3 simple steps to this technique, you can use the Two-Handed Fair Isle method on anything Fair Isle; sweaters, yokes, shawls, wraps, cowls, scarves, mittens, hats, you name it!

The Alaska hat is knit in 2 colours of 4-ply Fingering or “Sock” Weight yarn.  Choose from two solids or a combination of solids, tonals, or self-patterning yarns.  Knitting this hat is very rhythmic and is a nice project that is light in your hands.  The pattern will be provided digitally via email and a working copy will be printed and provided for use during class.

Janet has recently revised the crown shaping for this hat, as shown in the picture.  The instructions for this alternate crown shaping will be provided in class.  All prior students are welcome to this handout – please ask for it the next time you are in the shop!

(* depending on yarn choice, you may have enough yarn to complete two hats, by reversing the colours for the second hat)
Rated:  All Knitters
Pre-Requisite:  Knowledge of Knit and Purl Stitches; comfortable working in the round on circular or double pointed needles

Sending a little sunshine your way, to brighten your day!  Thanks for reading.
Patti-Ann
