During the month of April, we are offering another exciting Mystery Knit-A-Long (MKAL), hosted by Michelle Hunter of “Knit Purl Hunter” fame. The MKAL will start April 4th and consist of 4 clues, sent out each Thursday in April.
This MKAL is not a true mystery – we know it’s going to be a pillow. B-U-T, the finished design is the actual mystery. The name of this Knit-A-Long (KAL) is “Cable Channel”, and it is a textured, cabled, reversible pillow design.
Are you not a pillow person? No problem! You can still join us for this KAL and instead, simply add a handle or shoulder strap and ‘voilà!’ you’ve got a purse or project bag. Or instead of seaming it into a pillow, just leave the finished piece flat and use it as a table runner or wall hanging.
Here’s a description of the pattern and the KAL, from Michelle herself:
“Join me this April for Cable Channel, a stylish pillow featuring an original cable pattern. The design creates a rich fabric to add beauty and texture to any decor. Pillows provide the perfect platform to explore new techniques and hone the finishing skills. They also make great gifts!
Cable Channel is knit in one piece with simple seaming and features a button closure to allow for easy washing and assembly. The front and back are knit in different stitch patterns to keep the project interesting and texturally charming. Both written and charted instructions, along with video support, are provided to guarantee success.
I promise to deliver a cable pattern that is sure to impress you! My trusted test knitters are still raving about it.”
This KAL is suitable for ALL skill levels, including Beginners with knowledge of knit and purl stitches. If you are new to cabling or need a little reassurance that you can do it, Michelle has created online video tutorial support for the techniques used in this KAL. Think of her as your own private knitting tutor. And, as always, we here at London Yarns are available to help as well.
To participate along with us in the KAL you must purchase yarn for this project at London Yarns, otherwise the pattern may be accessed via Michelle Hunter’s blog on her website.
This KAL uses a Double Knitting weight yarn, knit to a gauge of 23 sts/4” and we have 7 suggested yarn options for you to choose from:
- Cascade 220 sport
- Comfort DK
- Cotton On DK
- Misty DK
- Radiant Cotton
- Ultra Wool DK
- Vintage DK

- 4mm x 60 cm circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge
- Cable needle
- 14” pillow form
- Four 7/8” buttons
Finished Size: 14” square
Gauge: 23 sts and 30 rows = 4” in stockinette
