‘HAND-MADE’

Monday, January 21/19 – ‘Hand-Made’

Today’s email is featuring the art of ‘Hand-Made’, whether that be made by others hands or made by yours.  We have two new offerings of hand-made products and then some class to help you produce your own quality hand-made items.

WOOD YARN BOWLS

Hand-Made Wood Yarn Bowls – each a unique piece of functional art!  ALL are one of a kind, no two are identical!

We have received a new shipment of Wood Yarn Bowls – HAND-MADE locally here in London!!  Each bowl is numbered for reference and made of local wood species, including Maple, Knotty Pine, Poplar, Oak, etc.  Made with skill and great care, these bowls are buffed to a silky smooth finish.

Not only are these wood yarn bowls incredible to look at but they are useful too!   AND... Not just for yarn!!  Finished with a ‘food friendly’ glaze or mineral oil, they can be used for just about any purpose you wish.

Speaking of ‘Hand-Made’, have you seen our vast selection of HAND-MADE Stitch Markers

Each one is unique and has been skillfully created by our very own talented Louise.  Sold individually, you can select a few of your favourites or create your own ‘set’.

Available in a wide variety of colours, shapes & sizes.  Hurry in for best selection.  Only $1.98 each!!

We have some class scheduled for the next few weeks heading into February.  Can you come?  It’s a great opportunity to sharpen your own ‘hand-made’ skills with the guidance and assistance of a teacher.  Please call the store at 519-474-0403 to register.

CABLED COWL
One 2-hour Session
Cost:  $55 (includes yarn & pattern)
Date & Time:  Tuesday, February 12/19 from 1 pm – 3 pm
Teacher: Louise

Practice your cables with this beautiful Cowl. It knits up quickly using a chunky weight yarn.  The cowl length is easily adjusted, as it is knit flat, casting on the width and knitting up to the finished length.  Skills learned in this class include a crocheted provisional cast on, cabling, picking up stitches from waste yarn and 3-needle cast off.  But don’t be intimidated – this Cowl looks more complicated than it really is!

Pre-Requisite:  Knowledge of Knit and Purl Stitches

There is still time to join our Machine Knitters Club!

 Teacher:  Janet

Join Janet and be a part of this Club exclusive to Machine Knitters.  Due to popular demand, the Club is now being offered as “hands-on” sessions and will be offered in blocks of 6 sessions with one session being offered approximately every month starting in January and ending in June.  The Club will break for the summer months (July & August) and re-convene for four more sessions in September through to December (10 Sessions each year).

Knitters can expect to be exposed to numerous new stitches and techniques in hand manipulation, machine patterning, bindings, trims and finishing techniques.
Each square knits up quickly and easily on the LK150 knitting machine.  By the end of the sessions, students will have completed many knit squares showcasing what they have learned and it is recommended assembling them to create a beautiful throw highlighting the varying new stitches.

We are pleased to offer all participants a 15% discount when they purchase sufficient yarn from London Yarns to complete this on-going project.  Students may choose multiple colours or a solid shade throughout.

All of the stitch techniques learned can be combined and transferred to many other aspects of your knitting!   Use your newly mastered stitches (or combinations thereof) in garments, baby blankets or home décor items or to create scarves, wraps, sweater panel designs and/or afghan panels.  The possibilities are limitless!
This “get-together” for machine knitters will encourage “Show & Tell” and will be an outlet for machine knitters to share their projects, ideas, and questions.

By becoming a member, you will be entitled to attend all 6 hands-on sessions and receive all of the relevant hand-out material for each session.  After the summer break, you will be able to register for the final 4 sessions of the year (September to December).  EVEN IF you were unable to attend one of the sessions you will still receive all of the hand-out materials!

You will be knitting samples of the new stitches or techniques right in class, and should questions arise from the group, they will be addressed at the next session.
