NEW PATTERN & PATTERN IDEAS

Monday, January 14/19 – New Pattern & Pattern Ideas

We have two new ‘pattern inspirations’ and also, a new Dragonpine Pattern for you this week.

First up, we have a new hat pattern for Hand Knitters from Dragonpine Designs, our ‘in-house’ design team:
“Jade’s Hat – Slouchy or Not”

This pattern offers both slouchy and beanie options in a range of sizes to fit infant, child, teen & adult.  Knit with worsted weight yarn, the stitch pattern is easy to remember.  The crown shaping happens quickly resulting in a nice rounded out (non-peaked) crown so that the hat can be worn with or without a pompom, as desired.

Ask for DP-129 “Jade’s Hat – Slouchy or Not” and get started right away.  This hat knits up quickly, so you can gift one to all your family & friends.

And now onto the ‘pattern inspirations’ part or our email...

Perhaps you remember that we recently advertised hand dyed “sock blanks” from Zen Yarn Garden.  If not, here’s a brief refresher:

LUX BLANX
from Zen Yarn Garden

Lux Blanx are made from 150 grams of soft, squishy, luxurious Serenity Silk+ and pre-knit (single stranded) into fabric and then dyed into 12 unique colourways for you to knit or crochet from!  Each blank is individually hand-dyed so no two are exactly alike.  Lux Blanx weigh a generous 150 grams, which means you have 750 yards to work with!

LUX BLANX made from Serenity Silk+
Yardage:  685 mtrs / 750 yds / 150 grams
Tension:  28-40 sts = 4” (10 cm)
Suggested Knitting Needle:  2 mm - 2.75 mm, US 0-2
Fibre Content:  75% Superwash Merino, 15% Cashmere, 10% Silk
Care: Hand Wash, Flat Dry

Since we have quite a number of these blanks in stock, we thought we might inspire you with some pattern ideas for use with the Lux Blanx.  Have a look...

by Roxanne Yeun

The yarn used in this design is a unique put up called “LUX BLANX” which is pre-knit blanks that have been dyed after the blanks have been knit. You will unravel and knit from the blanks or if you prefer you can put the blanks into yarn cakes prior to knitting.

This pattern is completely customizable!  You can knit it as large as you like or as small as you like!  (if knitting the largest size using 1500 yds, please allow a minimum of 15g of yarn for bind off)

Colourways used:  Knit with Tranquil & High Seas
Yardage:  503 - 1372 m (550 - 1500 yds)
Size shown:  43" wide x 28" long at center spine

For further information, please see Zen’s instructional blog post on how to handle sock blanks and also the instructional video from Staci at VeryPink.com for further instruction on handling these particular Lux Blanx’s, plus a tutorial on the brioche stitch.

Go crazy combining colourways - you will end up with a truly unique result!

Next we have...
by Roxanne Yeun

Shawl shown is knit from a sock blank.

The “Itty Bitty Picot-y Shawl” is an asymmetrical shawl knit from the top down featuring garter stitch throughout and a picot bindoff.

Size shown:  68" width x 9.5" height (size is adjustable)
Yardage used for size shown:  366m (400 yds)

Shawl size is easily adjustable to accommodate yardage – with one Lux Blanx, you have the option to make two shawls from just one Lux Blanx or one larger shawl!

Can you join us for a class or two?  We have these classes scheduled in the upcoming weeks.

Join Janet and be a part of this Club exclusive to Machine Knitters.  Due to popular demand, the Club is now being offered as “hands-on” sessions and will be offered in blocks of 6 sessions with one session being offered approximately every month starting in January and ending in June.  The Club will break for the summer months (July & August) and re-convene for four more sessions in September through to December (10 Sessions each year).

Knitters can expect to be exposed to numerous new stitches and techniques in hand manipulation, machine patterning, bindings, trims and finishing techniques.
Each square knits up quickly and easily on the LK150 knitting machine.  By the end of the sessions, students will have completed many knit squares showcasing what they have learned and it is recommended assembling them to create a beautiful throw highlighting the varying new stitches.

We are pleased to offer all participants a 15% discount when they purchase sufficient yarn from London Yarns to complete this on-going project.  Students may choose multiple colours or a solid shade throughout.

All of the stitch techniques learned can be combined and transferred to many other aspects of your knitting!   Use your newly mastered stitches (or combinations thereof) in garments, baby blankets or home décor items or to create scarves, wraps, sweater panel designs and/or afghan panels.  The possibilities are limitless!
This “get-together” for machine knitters will encourage “Show & Tell” and will be an outlet for machine knitters to share their projects, ideas, and questions.

By becoming a member, you will be entitled to attend all 6 hands-on sessions and receive all of the relevant hand-out material for each session.  After the summer break, you will be able to register for the final 4 sessions of the year (September to December).  EVEN IF you were unable to attend one of the sessions you will still receive all of the hand-out materials!

You will be knitting samples of the new stitches or techniques right in class, and should questions arise from the group, they will be addressed at the next session.
Rated:  All Machine Knitters
Pre-Requisite:  Basic Knowledge of the LK150
