CLASSES

Before we begin today’s email, I just wanted to give a big shout out of “THANKS” to Jen & Janet for all the work they did on last weeks email, while I was away.  Didn’t they do an amazing job?!?!  I was so impressed with their abilities; I may just be able to take an ‘early retirement’, eh?

Monday, October 1st:

Have you noticed that we are losing daylight?!?!  Do you know what that means????  Fall is well on its way!   Along with the shorter days & cooler nights comes the Fall Knitting & Crocheting Season – new yarns, new patterns, and new inspiration....Yeah!

The
“Match Play” KAL begins this Thursday.  If you have yet to join us in this exciting event, there is still time!!

While the ‘special yarn order’ has past, we do have many wonderful colours in stock for you to choose from.  Hurry in & sign up for this KAL!!

And, as a special bonus, if you complete the project by November 15th, not only will you be able to wear & ‘show off’ your wonderful work this season, but you will qualify to enter Skacel’s ‘Match Play KAL’ Prize Draw.

The name of the KAL is “Match Play”, and it is a textured poncho pattern with a bit more shaping than a traditional poncho. Here’s a description of the pattern and the KAL from designer, Michelle, at Knit Purl Hunter:

Join me this October for Match Play, a poncho featuring high-impact textured stitches and great techniques.  Match Play has a bit of structure as I nudge you toward full sweater knitting.  The best aspect of this poncho is that it has an easygoing fit to be figure-flattering on everyone.  Match Play’s design features a vertical central motif to elongate every silhouette and who doesn’t like that?

I discovered a new way to execute a favorite stitch that will forever change this technique for you.  Perhaps life changing is a bit strong of a term, but it certainly rocked my world!

The Clues given for the KAL are for ‘one size’ Poncho, measuring 35” wide across front (70” circumference),  and 23” long from shoulder to hem (length may be adjusted, with additional yardage).

Our Fall Class Schedule has begun.  If you would like to attend one of our classes or HELP! Sessions, please call the store to register at 519-474-0403, with your payment information.

Here is what we have slated so far:

BEGINNER’S SOCKS
Four 1.5-hour Sessions
Cost:  $85 (Yarn & Pattern Included)
Dates & Times:
Session 1:  Friday, October 12/18 from 1 pm – 2:30 pm
Session 2:  Friday, October 26/18 from 1 pm – 2:30 pm
Session 3:  Friday, November 2/18 from 1 pm – 2:30 pm
Session 4:  Friday, November 9/18 from 1 pm – 2:30 pm
Teacher: Louise

Sock knitting has dominated the knitting world for the past several years and will continue to do so for many years to come.  Don’t be afraid to dive into your first pair of socks!  We will guide you through every step of the way from casting on and knitting the leg, completing your heel flap, turning the heel, knitting the foot and grafting the toe.  Soon you will be turning heels and tapering toes like a pro!  Warning:  Knitting socks is highly contagious!  Once you start, you can’t stop.  You simply can’t just make one! (pair, that is).
Rated:  All Knitters
Pre-Requisite:  Knowledge of Knit & Purl Stitches

CABLED COWL or SCARF
One 2-hour Session
Cost:  $40 (includes yarn & pattern)
Date & Time:  Friday, October 19/18 from 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Teacher: Louise

This class will give you a chance to work with a bulky weight yarn that knits up quickly and at the same time, add to your knitting skills repertoire!  The Cabled Cowl or Scarf class is suitable for all knitters, from beginners who know how to knit & purl to the experienced who want to brush up on their cable skills (i.e. How to prevent “that gap” at the cable crossings).  And, you may choose if you prefer to knit the pattern as a cowl, or to finish it as a scarf.

During class you will learn how to read a pattern, do a provisional cast on (or crochet cast on, if you are knitting the Scarf), keep borders aligned, seed stitch, crossing cables both right & left, use of cable needle, markers & lifeline, and to finish your Cowl, you have the choice of mattress stitch, 3-needle cast-off or grafting.  Plus any number of other skills/techniques that may arise in class from what we affectionately call a “Teachable Moment” (i.e. picking up stitches, ripping back, fixing miss-crossed cables, etc).
Rated:  All Knitters
Pre-Requisite:  Knowledge of Knit and Purl Stitches

CABLED MITTS ON 2-NEEDLES
Four 2-hour Sessions
Cost:  $110 (yarn & pattern book included)
Dates & Times:
Session 1:  Tuesday, October 9/18 from 1 pm – 3 pm
Session 2:  Tuesday, October 16/18 from 1 pm – 3 pm
Session 3:  Tuesday, October 23/18 from 1 pm – 3 pm
Session 4:  Tuesday, October 30/18 from 1 pm – 3 pm
Teacher: Louise

These mitts are interesting to knit and will be admired by all who see them!  The mitts are knit flat and then seamed using mattress stitch.  The cable pattern is intricate and will give you an opportunity to learn how to keep several different patterns working alongside each other, all at the same time.  We will also learn how to pick up stitches, how to increase & decrease “while keeping the pattern correct”.  Choice of two cuffs styles available.
Rated:  Intermediate Course
Pre-Requisite:  Knowledge of Knit and Purl Stitches & familiar with cable techniques

HELP!!
One Session
Cost: $15 per hour
Teachers:  Janet & Cathy

2018 Dates & Times these sessions are offered:
Fridays:  October 12 & 26, November 9 & 23 - between the hours of 10 am – 12 pm

‘Mentoring”’ ... Not just for UFO’s anymore!!  Now you can take a Mentoring Session (or two or three) to expand your knitting skills.  If there has every been a class that we’ve offered, but didn’t work with your schedule, or one of our original Dragonpine Design Patterns that has caught your eye, but you didn’t know if you could manage it on your own ... now is the time to take advantage of our Mentoring & Skill Building Sessions!  We highly encourage you to start something new, take on a new project and expand your knitting skills while under the helpful guidance of our experienced & patient teachers – Janet & Cathy.

Other scenarios that may apply to these Mentoring Sessions:

     •    Maybe you have a project that has been squirreled away for quite some time that you became stuck on and just need a hand picking it back up and carrying on with it.

     •    Maybe you just need a single session to get past a stumbling block that you have encountered in your current project.

     •    Maybe you would like to tackle a project that is a little intimidating and would like some coaching as you work through it.

If any of these scenarios apply to you, then these mentoring sessions are just for you!

The beauty of these sessions is that YOU CHOOSE which dates you would like to come, either the Friday dates or the Saturday dates or you can mix and match.  Come to as many or as few sessions as you require.  All we ask is that you call the store to register to let us know when you will be coming.  The only pre-requisite is that we need a working copy of your pattern BEFORE the session so we may familiarize ourselves with what you are tackling.  Simply bring the pattern into the store and we will make a working copy for both of us.

One date still available!!
