A NEW KAL AND MORE NEW YARNS!

OUR ROAD IS PAVED AND IS NOW OPEN!!! WOO HOO!

Last week, we shared with you two new fingering weight yarns, Sabri & Eco Llama, from Illimani Yarns, a Canadian company based in Montreal.  This week we are continuing our introduction, presenting another  three new yarns by Illimani – a worsted weight, an aran weight and a light chunky weight, all of which have a flexible gauge that, depending on your needle size, can be knit to a DK, Aran or even a chunky weight gauge.

But first...how about a NEW fall Knit-Along?!
This time we’ll be doing things a bit differently. We are hosting the knit-along (KAL) through the store, but the designer will be very well-known to many of you. The designer’s name is Michelle Hunter, also known as Knit Purl Hunter. Did you do our shawl MKAL last year from the Building With Lace book? That’s Michelle Hunter! What about our Building Blocks workshop, based on the Building Blocks afghan book? That’s Michelle Hunter, too!

This KAL is not a true mystery. Because it is a garment, we want you to know exactly what you’re knitting so you can decide if it’s up your alley or not. The name of the KAL is “Match Play”, and it is a textured poncho pattern with a bit more shaping than a traditional poncho. Here’s a description of the pattern and the KAL, from Michelle herself:

Join me this October for Match Play, a poncho featuring high-impact textured stitches and great techniques.  Match Play has a bit of structure as I nudge you toward full sweater knitting.  The best aspect of this poncho is that it has an easygoing fit to be figure-flattering on everyone.  Match Play’s design features a vertical central motif to elongate every silhouette and who doesn’t like that? I discovered a new way to execute a favorite stitch that will forever change this technique for you.  Perhaps life changing is a bit strong of a term, but it certainly rocked my world!

This KAL starts very soon: October 4th! Because of the start date, we need to put a short turn-around on yarn orders. Our three options that we are offering for this KAL are:
1. 8 balls of Ultrawool DK, a machine washable 100% superwash wool from Berocco
2. 8 skeins of Vintage DK, a machine washable wool-acrylic-nylon blend from Berocco
3. 13 balls of Comfort DK, a machine washable acrylic-nylon blend from Berocco
Other materials required: a 32” 4mm circular needle, a 16” 4mm circular needle, a 16” 4.5mm circular needle, stitch markers, stitch holders (or waste yarn in a contrasting colour and no thicker than a DK weight), and if you do the optional crochet cast-on you will need a 4mm crochet hook.
The poncho is one size, with finished dimensions of 35” wide (70” in circumference) around the bust/chest, and 23” from shoulder to bottom hem (length may be easily adjustable, but lengthening the poncho will require more yarn!).

In order for the yarn to be here on time to start the KAL on October 4th, we need all orders to be in by the end of the day on Thursday September 27th so we can place our order with Berocco on Friday September 28th. This will ensure delivery by mid-afternoon on Tuesday October 2nd

KAL instructions will be released via email on Thursdays throughout October (the 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th). Need a little incentive to finish? With Michelle’s KALs, there is always a prize drawing at the end that is sponsored by Skacel (the distributor for addi, HiKoo, Schoppel-Wolle, and Skacel yarns and accessories). Finish your poncho by November 15th to be entered into the prize draw! In previous KALs, the prizes have been baskets of yarn, accessory kits, new products before they were released, and even sets of addi Click interchangeable needles (a $240 value!).

Want to sign up? Stop in to the store before the 27th or give us a call! We’re happy to take orders by phone.

We participate in the Ravelry In-Store sales program which allows us to sell you patterns on Ravelry at the same price as advertised. The patterns are then emailed to you and placed in your Ravelry library (if you have one).  It is a win-win-win program!  The designer gets their full commission, the customer can buy the pattern, even if they don’t have an email address or Ravelry account, or prefer not to give out their payment information online, and we have the pleasure of helping you, our customers, fulfill your pattern preferences, along with a small commission from Ravelry for helping you.  See?!?!  Win-win-win!

Well...that should keep us busy for a while, eh?!?
