NEW YARNS!

Introducing a new line of yarn!!

We are absolutely THRILLED to bring you Illimani, a Canadian company, based in Montreal, that produces extremely GOREGEOUS yarns in a responsible manner.

Can you say “scrump-delly-icious”!?!?!  That is what all of Illimani Yarns are!!  They are most definitely a ‘must feel’ – SOOOOO SOFT!!!!  One touch and you will be in love.

What makes Illimani Yarns so exceptional?
Illimani uses only baby llama & alpaca fibres, one of the finest natural fibres in the world, measuring 18.5 - 19.5 microns (1% of the alpaca wool production).  Next to “royal”, “baby” is the finest grade and softest part of the fleece.

Llama & Alpaca fiber is classified not by age of the animal, but by the diameter of the hair. Baby llama & baby alpaca is the finest, softest yarn, and it is highly prized for knitting and other crafts.  Because of the quality, it also tends to be very costly – but not so with Illimani!

Illimani fibres go direct from source to the mill, cutting out ‘the middle man’, thus providing exquisite, high quality yarns at VERY reasonable prices.

All Illimani Yarns arede-haired taking away all of the coarse hairs and leaving just the very fine, soft hairs.  Not all companies do this – but Illimani does.  This results in a yarn that is supremely soft, while also being warmer, stronger and lighter than wool of the same weight.

All Illimani yarn is made in Bolivia where they have 2 mills that are “syndicated” – meeting standards that assure good wages & good working environment for their workers.
Here is a little about this Canadian company:

ABOUT US:
“We know about the art of knitting!

In 2001, Import Chompas was created with a mission to introduce ILLIMANI to the North American market, a luxury ready-to-wear collection of alpaca and llama wool apparel hand-made by artisans in Bolivia.

After many years in the fashion business, we decided it is time to focus on the yarn; by applying all our experience on knits and fine wools to carefully select the very best natural yarns in the world at unbeatable prices.

Illimani has worked with thousands of artisans in Bolivia and Peru, many of which have mastered the art of knitting and crocheting. Our mission is to provide the materials and the inspiration to our customers to help them create their own artisanal textiles.

We also work along with international aid organisations to support artisans in the Bolivian and Peruvian Andes commercialize their products in the North American markets.”
– quoted from http://www.illimaniyarn.com/about-us.php

In today’s email we will introduce you to two new Fingering Weight yarns from Illimani.  Next week, we will continue the ‘introductions’ with more yarns from Illimani.  B-U-T, if you can’t wait until next weeks reveal with these ‘to be mentioned’ new yarns, they are already in stock.  So as you stop in to see the yarns featured in today’s email, ask about their thicker ‘yarn siblings’.

Have you seen Sabri in our shop?  If you haven’t yet had a chance to notice it or work with it, now may be just the time.  We’ve already had to re-order it multiple times since it arrived a few weeks ago.  It is getting ‘rave reviews’ from both our customers and our staff too!

SABRI is a blend of Organic Cotton with natural Baby Alpaca in a fingering weight.  An all natural, eco-friendly yarn!

Illimani Sabri is an exquisite, soft blend of Organic cotton and baby alpaca. Both fibres are certified organic and used in their natural, undyed state to compose a shade range of 7 beautiful neutral colours – 5 solid shades & 2 marls.  With the breathability of the softest Organic cotton and the downy drape & subtle sheen of Alpaca, this light fingering weight yarn is sure to be your new favourite ‘go to’ yarn.  Perfect for wearing year ‘round.

The grey shades are the result of a melange with the organic cotton and the very rare natural black of the alpaca.  Both fibres are certified -GOTS organic.

What are the properties and benefits of Llama & Alpaca fibres?

Both are ‘Camelid’ fibres that are soft, durable, luxurious & silky; warmer than sheep wool but without lanolin, making it hypoallergenic.  Camelid fibres are also naturally water-repellent & flame retardant.

Here is a very brief, but helpful summary of some benefits of Llama fibre:

- taken from https://bonalla.com/benefits-of-llama-wool

  • Llama fiber has the ability to wick moisture, dry without using external heat, remain warm when wet, and has a higher warmth to weight ratio than wool, making it a superior cold weather fiber.
  • Llama fiber’s low scale and naturally soft handle require no alteration and its wicking advantage is markedly higher.
  • Llama fiber is hollow and hygroscopic making it a superior insulator and moisture regulator compared to solid, hydrophobic synthetic fibers.
  • Llama fiber is hollow so its loft is encapsulated and doesn’t diminish with compression and use, meaning the fiber structure contains more air than fiber, creating low density, insulating clothing. Llama products are durable and long-lasting, providing great warmth for a lifetime.
  • Whether you enjoy comfort and warmth during the cold winter months or durability and breathability in the warm summer season, our llama wool products are the perfect addition to your wardrobe.
  • Compared to the best Alpaca fiber, llama fiber has a better insulation capacity and breathability. Thus, it keeps you fresh in warm weather, and warm in cold weather.

And that brings us to our next Fingering Weight Llama yarn – another “all natural, undyed” yarn....
