BLOCKING

Monday, June 4/18 – Blocking

What do you think of when you hear the word “Blocking”?  For some, it seems to be a very easy last step in finishing off their projects (right Jen?!?!?).  For others, like myself, we KNOW that is a necessary process that MUST be done to finalize almost every project, but still, we dread it!  But, as with any undertaking, having the right ‘tools of the trade’ make the whole procedure feel a little less like ‘work’ and a bit more enjoyable.  Thankfully, we have some awesome tools to help you with the Blocking Process!

First up is a relatively NEW PRODUCT that has received ‘rave reviews’ from our own customers as well as many others online...

Knit Blockers

Knit Blockers substantially reduces the number of pins that a user needs to use to block a project. Plus it allows the user to apply a more consistent tension while blocking a wide area. It saves time and provides a better, more consistent solution than using pins alone.
  • A novel and original idea to block knitting projects…….guaranteed to make knitting lives easier!!
  • The ease of handling the blockers substantially speeds up blocking on all types of projects
  • The design helps maintain even tension across the width of the blocking pins
  • Ideal working on blocking straight edges like sweaters, shawls and scarves
  • Anchor holes in each blocker allows the user to attach string along large sections which can be pulled and pinned to maintain consistent tension
  • Made using tough plastic with embedded sharp, sturdy & rust resistant stainless steel pins
  • Two different sizes to manage different shapes when blocking
  • Designed by knitters for knitters
  • Pack of 20 Knit Blockers (12 Knit blockers having 8 pins & 8 Knit Blockers having 4 pins)
  • How to use Knit Blockers (PDF File)

Next up... Interlocking Block Mats

Tools to use on the Mats….

Blocking Wires
(sold individually or as a set)

Ideal for ANY project with straight edges and even those without, including lace!  Simply slip the wire through the edges of your project and place pins along the inside of the wires to hold them in place while the fabric dries.  If you have scalloped edges you will want to slip the wire through the outer edges or tips of your scallops to emphasize them.  Follow the same rules as pin or string blocking by measuring the radius of your finished piece as you adjust the wires.  Wires measure 34.5"/880mm long (est. 15 gauge), made of stainless steel and rust proof. (Tip: the first time you use your blocking wires, wipe them with a soft cloth to remove manufacturing residue.)

Individual Wires:  34½” in length, buy one or more as needed

Blocking Wire Sets:  Set comes with 15 wires in a cardboard tube – all are the same size, measuring 34½”in length, 20 T-pins & blocking instructions are also included.

T-pins

Made from nickel plated stainless steel, T-pins are rust resistant for fast, easy insertion.  T-head design offers more pushing surface allowing for greater control, less finger fatigue and covers more knit surface, holding your knits securely in place.  And also assists in easy removal of the pins when finished.  Pins come in a package of 50, measure 1½” (40 mm) long and have their own convenient container.

Bent Fork Blocking Pins

These rust resistant ‘double pins’ can quickly pierce and firmly hold knit items while blocking. The grip of the double pin is bent for ease in handling.  The design of these pins is ideal for Blocking Mats (or any thinner blocking surface) as they do not need to pierce as deeply as into the foam to hold the fabric in place.  Plus, each ‘fork’ has a fine diameter, thus leaving only a small puncture mark in the Mat.  Packaged in a sturdy plastic case with slide out drawer; 35 pins per package.

And, lastly, to put the final ‘finish’ on your projects, may we introduce “Flatter” by Soak....
