MIGRATION KAL REMINDER

Monday, April 2/18 – Migration KAL Reminder

Have you joined our newest Knit-Along (KAL) yet?  It’s poised to begin later this week, so there is still time to sign up, if you haven’t already.

Janet has finished her Migration shawl.  She test knit it ahead of time & thankfully so!  There were a few mistakes in the pattern.  So, now she will share with us the corrections for the errors that she discovered while knitting it.  Here it is completed...

(knit with Zen Gradient Trio in Serenity 20)

With all the attention and interest shown to our beautiful swan friends, we did have a couple protesting voices that were heard on Thursday, here at our store!

Our local, resident Canadian Geese couple were honking up a storm, desiring not to be overlooked or ignored in favour of their white counterparts – the swans.

The pair has nested yearly in the empty field across from our shop.  They have quite the personality!!

And although they do wish to receive our notice, they are happy to share some of our attentions with the tundra swans.  Though, they ask that, as you knit our “Migration Shawl”, you give them some thought, as well.

(Machine Knitters, be sure to scroll down
for a special treat, especially for you!)

So, to reiterate, here are the details of our Migration KAL:

MIGRATION
designed by Shireen Nadir

The Migration Shawl was “so named for the ‘flying V’ formation ... reminiscent of Canada Geese” – or in our case, the Tundra Swan.  The Migration shawl uses basic lace stitches on the right side rows, and all wrong side rows are ‘rest rows’ - just purling.  The shawl is perfect for showcasing a long run gradient yarn, gradient sets, or yarns in tonals, solids or heathers.  It blocks to a generous 50” wingspan – measuring just shy of the swans actual wingspan!!  Think of it – wearing the shawl would be like being wrapped in swan’s wings!

Let’s all eagerly create this memorable keepsake to honour our fine feathered friends.  The instructions are well written, every other row is a nice break, as all wrong side rows are purled, and the only skills you need in your knitting repertoire are:

Knitting, Purling, Counting, Chart Reading, Yarn Over,
Decreasing by Knitting 2 Together or SSK,
and every once in a while, a “Pass Slipped Stitch Over” thrown in!

Please do not be intimidated by this project – It is well suited to all knitters.

Your Migration Shawl Kit will include:

  • Migration Shawl Pattern for knitters
  • A handmade Greeting Card from Imagine Photography, choose from one of three images of Swans in flight

  • Janet’s ‘Coles Notes & Helpful Hints’ (AND pattern corrections) for knitting the Migration Shawl
  • KAL cost is $14.98 plus yarn purchased at London Yarns – your choice of Fingering or sport/DK Weight
  • 4mm needles are needed for this project

For the hand knit Migration Shawl KAL, you will need 4.5 mm knitting needles & a minimum of 550 mtrs of either a Fingering or Sport/DK weight yarn.  This shawl would look AMAZING in Zen Gradients (Janet knit her Migration Shawl with them), or Katia Ombre (gradient set pack).  Choose from any of our in stock yarns.

ATTENTION MACHINE KNITTERS!!

Are you interested in joining our Migration KAL too?  Well, here is some good news:  Janet has been working hard to design a pattern, inspired by Migration, that can be done on the machine and Judy is test knitting it as we speak!

There will be two designs to choose from 1) a rectangular scarf version and 2) a triangle shawl version, knit entirely on the machine – WOW!

Here is the completed rectangle scarf...

Both Machine Knit Knit-Along (MK-KAL) patterns will hopefully be available very soon.  In the meantime, feel free to register for our MK-KAL, pick out your yarn and be ready to begin your very own machine knit scarf or shawl, motivated by “Migration“.

ATTENTION YARN CLUB MEMBERS!
