Remember how last Monday’s email was ‘brief’? Well, we’re making up for it this week, with a ‘not-so-brief’ email.
That’s what happens when a weeks’ worth of happening go by unannounced – they add up into to two weeks’ worth of ‘news’ from the shop!

NEW ARTISAN PRODUCT!
Today, we are thrilled to let you know that we will be carrying a new Canadian Artisan’s wares – that being HAND MADE, luxury faux fur pompoms. Yes, that’s right... all faux fur – no animals were harmed in the making of these pompoms!!
Don't be fooled by how real they look (& and they DO look real), as they are made completely out of man-made materials. These pompoms are STUNNING – hand made with great care out of soft & silky faux fur!! The detail in the faux fur fabric is incredible with subtle highlights of various colours in each pom's tufts. The fabric itself is comprised of varying lengths of fur-like fibre mimicking the depth and texture of the real thing in a variety of animal-like colours. The ‘Fur’ is of very high quality that has a lovely, gentle sheen to it.
Available in four Sizes:
Small: 3.8 inches in diameter (baby/toddler size)
Medium: 4.2 inches in diameter (kids/teen size)
Large: 4.8 inches in diameter (adult hat size)
X-Large: 5.2 inches in diameter
Sew/Tie Option: Each Pompom is securely connected to several inches of sturdy string to sew or tie onto your project.
Snap Option: Good quality, silver snap with the back half securely sewn onto the pompom; sew the front half of the snap onto your project, making the Pompom fully removable.
Care instructions: spot clean with a damp cloth and then leave out to air dry; a blow dryer works fantastically to fluff them up again and make them look like new.
Because there is a lovely contrast in sizes – think... ‘Mommy & Me’ Sets! Order a small for your little tyke and a large or x-large to match for Mom....sooo sweet!!

Millefiori Light is new from Berroco! ‘Millefiori’ is an Italian glasswork technique producing distinctive decorative patterns of which Berroco has transformed into yarn-y bliss for us! Made from an equal blend of wool and acrylic, giving the yarn both stability and softness. The glowing palette of marled and variegated colourways, both ebb and flow in random patterns to create a moderate & gentle, multicoloured fabric with just a hint of shine. Join Janet and be a part of this new Club exclusive to Machine Knitters. The Club will be offered in blocks of 5 sessions with one session being offered approximately every month. Knitters can expect to be exposed to many new stitches and techniques. Although all of them will be demonstrated on the LK150 Knitting Machine, these techniques and stitches can also be worked on any style of knitting machine.
This “get-together” for machine knitters will encourage “Show & Tell” and will be an outlet for machine knitters to share their projects, ideas, and questions.
By becoming a member, you will be entitled to attend all 5 demonstration sessions and the relevant hand-out material for each session. EVEN IF you were unable to attend one of the sessions you will still receive all of the hand-out materials!
You will be encouraged to knit a sample of the new stitch or technique shown that month, and should questions arise from the group, they will be addressed at the next session.

BUILDING BLOCKS - BLOCK OF THE MONTH FOR HAND KNITTERS

Would you like to improve your hand knitting skills and have a gorgeous sampler afghan to show for it? Louise will help you on your way with this “Customer Favourite” educational class. Each session we will work on two different blocks while focusing on expanding our knitting knowledge. Start with the simple knit & purl stitch squares and then watch your confidence grow as you master the techniques of each square with advancing difficulty. We will be covering skills such as pattern reading, pattern abbreviations, gauge, pattern appropriate increase & decrease techniques, lifelines, lace work, cable knitting, reading charts and, of course, methods of casting on & off. By the end of session 5 we will be ready to finish an afghan that is approximately 36” x 48” and decide on your favourite border option.

CABLED MITTS ON 2-NEEDLES

These mitts are interesting to knit and will be admired by all who see them! The mitts are knit flat and then seamed using mattress stitch. The cable pattern is intricate and will give you an opportunity to learn how to keep several different patterns working alongside each other, all at the same time. We will also learn how to pick up stitches, how to increase & decrease “while keeping the pattern correct”. Choice of two cuffs styles available.

With sock knitting being all the rage, let’s experiment with different ways of knitting them. Toe up socks are easy to do, and if you think about it, make a whole lot of sense. By knitting your socks from the toe up, you can be guaranteed a perfect fit because you can try them on as you go AND, more importantly, if you are running shy on yarn, you are guaranteed of getting at least both of your feet knit – no more different coloured toes! Basically your yarn supply will determine whether you are making ankle socks or knee socks! The great thing about this workshop, other than knitting socks, of course, is that you will learn a wonderful new cast-on, a new way to turn a heel, and a neat new way to cast-off; and, you guessed it… you don’t need to graft the toes when you are finished!
