PROJECTS TO DO

Monday, October 30/17 – Projects to do

We have a few offerings for you this week.  Since we’ve already seen some frost last week, along with a bit of wet snow on Saturday and as the temperature continues to drop, we thought we might share some cozy, ‘quick knit’ project inspiration with you today, in the form of patterns available for purchase, or if you prefer a bit of assistance, we have some fun classes scheduled, too.

Have you seen this stunning, yet soooo easy-to-do, cowl?  The colours are vivid and vibrant, the yarn soft and snuggly – check it out….

Unforgettable Waves Cowl
Soft & cozy with lovely drape!
Wear it wrapped around once, twice or three times, as desired.
(shown wrapped twice)

Knit in the round,
using 2 balls of Unforgettable Waves
with 8mm x 80cm circular needles
& Cathy’s “Cowl Country” Pattern
Level of Difficulty: “Easy-Peasy”

New Dragonpine Pattern...
CABLED COWL

Cowl is knit flat & seamed using just one ball of Patons Alpaca Blend & 8mm needles.
(Cowl can be easily lengthened, if desired.)
Newly revamped Dragonpine Pattern...

CABLED HAT with POMPOM & GAUNTLETS

Samples in burgundy are knit with Patons Alpaca Blend.

If knit to gauge, the entire set of Cabled Hat, Cabled Cowl & Gauntlets
can be knit with just two balls of Patons Alpaca Blend

Not only does this set knit up quickly but it is comfy & cozy to wear – just in time for the cooler weather that is on its way!

Can you join us??  Please give call us at 519-474-0403, with your payment information, to register for a class.

CABLED COWL or SCARF
Two 1.5-hour Sessions
Cost:  $40 (includes yarn & pattern)
Dates & Times:
Session 1:  Wednesday, November 1/17 from 10 am to 11:30 am
Session 2:  Wednesday, November 15/17 from 10 am to 11:30 am
Teacher: Louise

This class will give you a chance to work with a bulky weight yarn that knits up quickly and at the same time, add to your knitting skills repertoire!  The Cabled Cowl or Scarf class is suitable for all knitters, from beginners who know how to knit & purl to the experienced who want to brush up on their cable skills (i.e. How to prevent “that gap” at the cable crossings).  And you may choose if you prefer to knit the pattern as a cowl, or to finish it as a scarf.

During class you will learn how to read a pattern, do a provisional cast on (or crochet cast on, if you are knitting the Scarf), keep borders aligned, seed stitch, crossing cables both right & left, use of cable needle, markers & lifeline, and to finish your Cowl, you have the choice of mattress stitch, 3-needle cast-off or grafting.  Plus any number of other skills/techniques that may arise in class from what we affectionately call a “Teachable Moment” (i.e. picking up stitches, ripping back, fixing miss-crossed cables, etc).

THIS CLASS IS PERFECT FOR ALL BEGINNER KNITTERS

Lately we have had loads of requests to do a workshop on fixing mistakes. Well here it is! This hands-on class will not only teach you how to deal with all kinds of “knitting disasters” like dropped and twisted stitches and un-picking one or many rows, but will also deal with things like; “how do I know what row of my pattern I’m on” and “Oh-No! All of the stitches fell off of my needle! What do I do? And “Oh-No! The phone rang, I set down my knitting and now I don’t know how to start up again! So often customers tell us that they unravelled all of their knitting and started over simply because they didn’t have the skills to fix their mistake; Oh My! Never again after this workshop! Simply put, all beginner knitters can benefit from taking this class.
Rated: All Knitters
Pre-Requisite: Knowledge of Knit & Purl Stitches

PLEASE NOTE:  The Sock & Shawl Blanks needed for this Dyeing Workshop will be PRE-KNIT, READY-MADE and provided for you in this class.

Please join us to welcome Janice as she teaches us all how to dye a “Blank!” Imagine applying dye to your very own Blank using your own choice of colours and learning many techniques on how to apply the dye using different mediums.  Apply the dye horizontally, vertically, diagonally, or free-form with a sponge or spritz!  Learn what effects the different methods have on the finished yarn.  You could even dye a secret message on your blank for a special person or occasion; kind of like creating your own code!

Janice, being the skilled and creative person that she is, will really help you to ‘let go of your fears’ when it comes to Dyeing and assist you to “Play” with colour and embrace the “Fun” side of the Dyeing process.  Students will complete their first Blank in class and learn everything they need to go home and capably dye all kinds of Blanks, repeating the dyeing process again and again.

Everything you need will be provided (other than some old clothes and a towel) for you during this hands-on dyeing workshop. We are happy to let you know that the dyes we will be using are non-toxic and food safe, containing no nasty fumes or harmful chemicals. Be sure to join us! This workshop is going to be LOADS OF FUN, FUN, FUN…we can hardly wait!
Rated:  Everyone

Important!!  Please remember to dress accordingly!  Be sure to wear clothing, that if dye accidentally gets splashed or spritzed on you, it will not ruin good clothing.

Sending a little sunshine your way,
