A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING

Monday, October 16/17 – A little bit of everything
Today’s email has no interconnected theme, but instead, we offer you just ‘a little bit of everything’ to pique your interest & brighten your day ...

AN ERRATA

For those of you who have already purchased a copy of the book “A CANADIAN AFGHAN, EH!”, we want to let you know of a small correction (errata) to the text on pages 50 & 51.

Errata:
On pages 50 & 51, after pattern row 32 it currently reads:  “Repeat Rows 1 – 32 (16 times more)

It should read “Repeat Rows 1 - 32
(16 times) [the word “more” is removed]

Gladys & Christy were mortified to find this error – they felt soooo bad.  But, given the complexity & detail of the pattern stitches, the text & charts and the comprehensiveness of the entire book,....to find just one error and a fairly minor one at that, I say ‘take heart’ you’ve done an excellent job!

This erratum is also posted on their Ravelry page:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/a-canadian-afghan-eh

Are you interested in knitting this masterpiece of an afghan?  Would you like a little guidance or help with it?  Want to learn some additional techniques along the way that makes finishing a breeze and minimize seaming as much as possible.  Why not join Janet for our instructional KAL workshop?!?  The group will meet once a month in the new year from January to June.  Please see the workshop description later in this email or visit our website www.londonyarns.com for further details.

Many of you have already been in to admire this fabulous new afghan created by local designers Gladys & Christy of GC Designs from Sarnia, Ontario.  Join Janet to get started & successfully accomplish this heirloom afghan – the perfect project to kick off the New Year!  Through the series of sessions, students can expect to learn literally dozens of knitting stitches & techniques.  Special attention will be given to starting and ending each block and/or strip in such a way so as to make finishing a breeze and minimize seaming as much as possible.

Learn professional techniques in adapting the knitting process to properly prepare your knitted pieces that result in beautiful seaming & finishing.  These will include, but are not be limited to, provisional cast on, provisional cast off, proper use of waste yarn, reading & accomplishing over 50 stitches and their abbreviations, minimizing the number of pieces to assemble, knitting top down, bottom up, as well as multi directional borders, use of lifelines, 3-needle cast off & mattress stitch.

All students will learn to "read between the lines" of their patterns and feel empowered to make these changes knowing that you will achieve a professional overall finish to your afghan.
By working through this process & building these skills you will be equipped with the confidence to apply these techniques in many future projects.

Joining our group for these sessions will be a perfect way to keep you motivated and forging ahead to complete what is sure to become a treasured work of art.  Finished afghan size is approximately 56” x 80”.

BLOCKING YOUR KNITS “SPECIAL EDITION”
One 2-hour Session
Cost:  $35
Date & Time:  Saturday, October 28/17 from 10 am – 12 pm
Teacher:  Janet

This “SPECIAL EDITION” Blocking Class will be focusing specifically on blocking the Maple Leaf Knit Shawl. B-U-T it will still cover the same information as our regular Blocking Class – so ALL are welcome regardless of whether you have knit this shawl or not. And if you have knit it, hopefully yours is completed (or nearly finished) - just in time to learn how to put the finishing touches on your Shawl by means of the blocking process.

Blocking is an essential part of finishing a project – as you can tell from the above photos.  See a project in action (aka – the Maple Leaf Shawl) as well as learn to block swatches, textured fabric, and to deal with various fibres and blends.  If you have never blocked your knits, come see what a difference it makes!
Rated:  All Knitters
Pre-Requisite:  None

Well, that about sums it up for today’s email.  We hope to see you soon and that the rest of your week goes well,
Patti-Ann
