Many of you have already been in to admire this fabulous new afghan created by local designers Gladys & Christy of GC Designs from Sarnia, Ontario.  Join Janet to get started & successfully accomplish this heirloom afghan – the perfect project to kick off the New Year!  Through the series of sessions, students can expect to learn literally dozens of knitting stitches & techniques.  Special attention will be given to starting and ending each block and/or strip in such a way so as to make finishing a breeze and minimize seaming as much as possible.

Learn professional techniques in adapting the knitting process to properly prepare your knitted pieces that result in beautiful seaming & finishing.  These will include, but are not be limited to, provisional cast on, provisional cast off, proper use of waste yarn, reading & accomplishing over 50 stitches and their abbreviations, minimizing the number of pieces to assemble, knitting top down, bottom up, as well as multi directional borders, use of lifelines, 3-needle cast off & mattress stitch.

All students will learn to "read between the lines" of their patterns and feel empowered to make these changes knowing that you will achieve a professional overall finish to your afghan.
By working through this process & building these skills you will be equipped with the confidence to apply these techniques in many future projects.

Joining our group for these sessions will be a perfect way to keep you motivated and forging ahead to complete what is sure to become a treasured work of art.  Finished afghan size is approximately 56” x 80”.

NEW CLASS…

‘YARN TO “DYE” FOR’ – Introduction:
We are so excited to be announcing another date for one of our newest workshops.  Have you ever heard of a “Blank?”  Well, if not, let us enlighten you!  A “Blank” is a term that describes a piece of knitting that is knit flat, in stockinette stitch, with natural, un-dyed, fingering weight yarn. This rectangle is then prepared for the dye and dye is applied to it. Once the dyeing is complete and the dye is set, then the Blank (which is no longer “blank”) is dried and the yarn is re-wound into balls to knit or crochet with!  When a Blank is produced for socks, the Blank is knit using a double strand of yarn. Upon completion, when the 2 strands of the Blank are unravelled, 2 identical balls emerge so your socks will match perfectly!  How cool is that?  When the Blank is used for a shawl, the Blank will be knit with a single strand of yarn.  We are also thrilled to announce that Sock and Shawl Blanks will be ready-made and available for purchase here at the store in a variety of fibre blends, sizes, and price ranges.

Please join us for this new workshop that will prove to be relaxing, exciting and REALLY FUN!!!

‘YARN TO “DYE” FOR’ – LEARN TO DYE A “BLANK” (For Socks or Shawls)
One 2-Hour Session
Cost:  $70.00 (Includes a 100 gram, pre-knit/ready-made Sock or Shawl Blank and EVERYTHING you need to dye your Blank = all materials & tools will be supplied) [**additional Blanks can be purchased separately]
Date & Time:  Thursday, November 9/17 from 10 am – 12 pm
Teacher:  Janice

PLEASE NOTE:  The Sock & Shawl Blanks needed for this Dyeing Workshop will be PRE-KNIT, READY-MADE and provided for you in this class.

Please join us to welcome Janice as she teaches us all how to dye a “Blank!” Imagine applying dye to your very own Blank using your own choice of colours and learning many techniques on how to apply the dye using different mediums.  Apply the dye horizontally, vertically, diagonally, or free-form with a sponge or spritz!  Learn what effects the different methods have on the finished yarn.  You could even dye a secret message on your blank for a special person or occasion; kind of like creating your own code!

Janice, being the skilled and creative person that she is, will really help you to ‘let go of your fears’ when it comes to Dyeing and assist you to “Play” with colour and embrace the “Fun” side of the Dyeing process.  Students will complete their first Blank in class and learn everything they need to go home and capably dye all kinds of Blanks, repeating the dyeing process again and again.

Everything you need will be provided (other than some old clothes and a towel) for you during this hands-on dyeing workshop. We are happy to let you know that the dyes we will be using are non-toxic and food safe, containing no nasty fumes or harmful chemicals. Be sure to join us! This workshop is going to be LOADS OF FUN, FUN, FUN…we can hardly wait!
Rated:  Everyone
Pre-Requisite:  None

Important!!  Please remember to dress accordingly!  Be sure to wear clothing, that if dye accidentally gets splashed or spritzed on you, it will not ruin good clothing.

NEW YARNS...

What better timing?!?!  Just as we receive a shipment of ‘bare’ yarn that is literally “ready to dye”, Janice was available to teach her ‘YARN TO “DYE” FOR’ Class.  While we use pre-knit Sock or Shawl Blanks in the class, the same dyeing skills can just as easily be applied to skeins of yarn!  And we have just such a thing!!  Now in stock, there is a nice assortment of fibres available in the “Ready to Dye” yarn line.

“READY TO DYE” by Universal Yarns are undyed, natural colour (bare) skeins that take dye beautifully, and are great for making your own hand-dyed originals in a generous 100 gram skein – ready and waiting to become any colour you can imagine!
