SIMPLICRIA by HiKoo
Cria is the name for a baby camelid such as an alpaca, llama or vicuña. It is derived from the Spanish word cría, meaning "baby." Why is this Alpaca yarn so soft? SimpliCria is made with the finest 1% of all Alpaca Fleece. In HiKoo’s Peruvian mill, Alpaca is hand sorted two times. During the first sort, the top 10% of the fleece is set aside as Baby Alpaca (21-22.5 microns). After hand sorting the Baby Alpaca, the softest 10% is then designated as Super Baby Alpaca (19-20 microns).
HiKoo SimpliCria is an impossibly soft, 100% baby alpaca yarn in a versatile DK/Worsted weight. SimpliCria has a gorgeous chainette construction, making it a lofty, light & airy yarn that just flows! The softly heathered colors of SimpliCria will work up into stunning accessories like hats & cowls, but would also make beautiful, cozy sweaters. Supremely soft & great for next-to-the-skin projects!
What is “chainette” construction and what are the benefits? I’m glad you asked
Chainette yarns are made up of thinner plies of yarns which are knit into a tiny chain or I-cord (at a very small scale). Chainette construction provides strength, stretch and elasticity to your knitting and crochet projects.
Alpaca fibre,
by its very nature, has next to no memory or bounce, which is absolutely wonderful if you want ‘drape’ in your fabric/project. But if not, one of the benefits of working with an alpaca chainette is that the yarn is more stable and springy; it has more memory than the fiber alone would have as a simple plied yarn or as a single.
