CUMBERLAND & GRADIENT SETS

Monday, June 19/17 – Cumberland & Gradient Sets

We will be running TWO dyeing classes a week from Sunday.  Can you join us?  It’s only 2-hours and it is soooooooooo much fun & very informative!  Please call us at 519-474-0403 to register.

‘YARN TO “DYE” FOR’ – LEARN TO DYE A “BLANK” (For Socks or Shawls)
One 2-Hour Session
Cost:  $70.00 (Includes a 100 gram, pre-knit/ready-made Sock or Shawl Blank and EVERYTHING you need to dye your Blank = all materials & tools will be supplied) [**additional Blanks can be purchased separately]
Date & Time:  Sunday Morning, June 25/17 from 10 am – 12 pm
OR  Sunday Afternoon, June 25/17 from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm
Teacher:  Janice

Please join us to welcome Janice as she teaches us all how to dye a “Blank!” Imagine applying dye to your very own Blank using your own choice of colours and learning many techniques on how to apply the dye using different mediums.  Apply the dye horizontally, vertically, diagonally, or free-form with a sponge or spritz!  Learn what effects the different methods have on the finished yarn.  You could even dye a secret message on your blank for a special person or occasion; kind of like creating your own code!

Janice, being the skilled and creative person that she is, will really help you to ‘let go of your fears’ when it comes to Dyeing and assist you to “Play” with colour and embrace the “Fun” side of the Dyeing process.  Students will complete their first Blank in class and learn everything they need to go home and capably dye all kinds of Blanks, repeating the dyeing process again and again.

Everything you need will be provided (other than some old clothes and a towel) for you during this hands-on dyeing workshop. We are happy to let you know that the dyes we will be using are non-toxic and food safe, containing no nasty fumes or harmful chemicals. Be sure to join us! This workshop is going to be LOADS OF FUN, FUN, FUN…we can hardly wait!

Pre-Requisite:  None

There are just a couple spots left in our Blocking Class.  Please call in as quickly as you can!

BLOCKING YOUR KNITS
One 2-hour Session
Cost:  $35
Date & Time:   Wednesday, June 14/17 from 10 am – 12 pm
Teacher:  Janet
Blocking is an essential part of finishing a project – as you can tell from the above photos.  See a project in action as well as learn to block swatches, textured fabric, and to deal with various fibres and blends.  If you have never blocked your knits, come see what a difference it makes!
Rated:  All Knitters
Pre-Requisite:  None

So….what can you create with the dyed Blanks from our workshop?  Here is a little inspiration, and hopefully, motivation for you to come and experience the delightful satisfaction of dyeing your own yarn.  The skills learned in this class will equip you to dye more than just Blanks!  You can dye raw fleece, skeins of yarn, material, etc.  Whatever you can see in your mind’s eye!

Jen dyed a Shawl Blank (meaning the Blank was knit with a single strand of yarn) and knit a pair of ‘fraternal twin’ socks:

Judy dyed a Shawl Blank and knit the Reyna Shawl:

Terry dyed a Sock Blank (meaning the Blank was knit with 2 strands of yarn, so that each 50 gram ball is dyed identically) and has almost completed her ‘identical twin’ socks:

Jen’s dyed a second Blank, but this time she used a Sock Blank, thus resulting in ‘identical’ socks.  She is knitting Toe Up, 2 socks at-a-time on 2 circulars!!

Soooooo, would you want to come & do some dyeing with us????  Please call 519-474-0403 to register.

We have had a new shipment of Zen Yarn Garden Gradient Sets.  Here is a sampling of some of the colours that have arrived:

(we have more colour options in stock than shown here)

The gradient sets currently come on a variety of bases – Serenity Silk Singles, Serenity 20 and Superfine Fingering, with a total yardage of each set being approximately 600yds.  Going forward Zen will only be dyeing their Gradient Sets on Superfine Fingering, so if you would like either the Silk Single or Serenity 20 base, now’s the time!!  Hurry in and choose from our in stock assortment.

What to do with a Gradient Set?  Judy has knit up the Cumberland Shawl and it is stunning!  If you would like to see it ‘in the flesh’, feel free to drop in any time, as we have it on display.

that ease through the beautiful colour gradients.

4mm needles
Finished Measurements (using only 480 mtrs):
