We have begun to carry a new line of yarns from The Fibre Company – Natural Fibre Yarns for Handknitting and Crochet!!

INTRODUCING …

“Each line in our range of natural fibre yarns is carefully developed by us to achieve the perfect combination of softness and structure. The colour palettes are created to achieve subtle variation in tone and saturation in a fine array of balanced shades. The result is an elegant yarn worthy of the most special projects—yours!”

ABOUT…
“We Make Hand Knitting Yarns that Delight and Inspire!
The Fibre Co.’s story began in 2003 in an old warehouse on the working waterfront of Portland, Maine, USA with a small spinning mill, lots of raw natural fibre and owner/founder Daphne Marinopoulos’ vision of creating yarns that she couldn’t find on the retail shelves. From these humble beginnings to today’s global brand now based in the United Kingdom, we work with a variety of producers and artisans to continue creating yarns that delight and inspire the enthusiast maker.”

WHAT’S IMPORTANT TO US?
“We’re all about sharing a heartfelt passion and creating yarns that are, at heart, as nature intended. Our yarns are combinations of a variety of natural fibres, we recognise the fragility of the landscapes that inspire us and we’re always conscious of our footprints from producer to mill to warehouse and everything in between. We aim to be stylish, consistent and to bring an authenticity to everything that we do.

We’re humbled to know that the best of the best designers use our yarns – so we’re keen to promote their work and encourage new talent. After all, their creativity is what allows us to provide you with amazing ideas.

It has always been about the triple bottom line for The Fibre Co.—people, profit and planet.  We’re always asking ourselves how we can improve our sustainability. We know that sustainability is an essential ingredient for our long-term success. We understand that sustainability is a process and see ourselves as a greening business constantly looking for ways to improve our impact on the environment.”

INTRODUCING…

Be they coastal, wooded or alpine, meadows are important ecosystems housing local fauna and serving as a fertile growing ground for flora of many varieties. Usually filled with grasses and other non-woody plants, the theme of lightness is everywhere in a meadow. What better name for a lace weight yarn? Meadow is the perfect lace weight yarn, spun with The Fibre Co.’s trademark blend of luxury fibres with a touch of rustic. Combining four of the most luxurious fibres—baby llama, fine merino wool, silk and linen—this 2 ply yarn is slightly heavier than a typical lace weight yarn. It is a versatile yarn that works well on a variety of needle sizes and a wide array of projects. The crisp hand and stitch definition of linen with the sheen of silk is perfectly complimented by the softness of baby llama and fine merino. A yarn for fibre lovers who like a treat on the needles and for their favourite handmades.

INTRODUCING…

Inspired from the days that Daphne was living and working in London, this yarn is reminiscent of the traditions and understated glory of Knightsbridge, a prestigious area of the capital city. Surrounded by inspiring architecture and some of the finest examples of beautiful interiors and fabrics, Daphne dreamt of developing a range of yarn that captured the essence of her inspiring walks through Hyde Park and along the impressive streets of Knightsbridge. The resulting yarn is warm, soft and sophisticated so works as well for garments as it does accessories and luxurious items for the home. Somewhere between a worsted and a DK weight yarn, this is a blend that is versatile in that it blooms and responds to the stitch patterns chosen. A tweedy, heathered colouring to each hank gives Knightsbridge its traditional appearance that lends a certain elegance to all fabrics worked up in this exceptional yarn. This yarn is created from dyed fibres in multiple colours which are then spun and twisted into a lovely 2 ply yarn. The merino, baby llama and silk all take up the dye differently and the interplay of multiple colours in each shade creates a lovely subdued palette. Knightsbridge is a yarn for makers and crafters seeking to create a handmade item for their wardrobe that will elevate their favourite outfits to new possibilities.

Currently, we have three coordinating colours in stock:

(and, no, “BLEU “is not a type-O...it is the actual correct spelling, as per the Fibre Co.)

INTRODUCING…

SWEET ROLL by Premier Yarns

Sweet Roll combines 3 colours in each ball. The yarn is designed to create wide stripes in a regular repeat, creating all the excitement of working with multiple colours, without the tedium of weaving in all those ends. Each ball contains 2 complete repeats of the stripe pattern, and begins and ends with the same colour, making the transition from one ball to the next easy.

Sweet Roll is an affordable, medium weight, machine washable, 100% acrylic yarn in a generous 140 gram ball with 224 metres.

Here is a “Sweet Roll Yarn Review”, by Little Monkeys Crochet:

BASIC INFO
Sweet Roll is a 100% acrylic, #4 medium worsted weight self-striping yarn. There are a generous 245 yards per roll, and 25 different color combinations to choose from.  And, it’s machine washable and dryable.
COLOR
Every Sweet Roll goes through each of its three colors two times, with equal amounts of each color (about 40 meters per section). Thanks to those evenly-spaced repeats, you can do multi-skein projects without having to worry about wasting any yarn, because the next skein will always match up perfectly to where the previous one left off.
FUNCTION
Sweet Roll comes in a really nice, flat-bottomed ball with a handy starting tail sticking out of the middle just waiting for you to grab. I loved this. I don’t know about you, but I sometimes I feel like I spend way too much time digging through, and occasionally destroying, a skein of yarn looking for that end! Sweet Roll could not have made it any easier.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The creators of Sweet Roll really took into account many of the desires of crocheters (and knitters, I’m sure) everywhere. From the uniformity of each roll, allowing for creating multi-skein projects with no headaches, to the practical function of the center-pull, flat-bottomed ball, this yarn is a good, solid choice for striped acrylic projects. If I could add any feature to it, I would have made the color changes gradual, but that’s really a matter of personal preference. Overall, this yarn is a nice, affordable choice with plenty of color schemes to suit any style.”
