Sock knitting has dominated the knitting world for the past several years and will continue to do so for many years to come.  Don’t be afraid to dive into your first pair of socks!  We will guide you through every step of the way from casting on and knitting the leg, completing your heel flap, turning the heel, knitting the foot and grafting the toe.  Soon you will be turning heels and tapering toes like a pro!  Warning:  Knitting socks is highly contagious!  Once you start, you can’t stop.  You simply can’t just make one! (pair, that is).

Most of the time slots will be 3 – 4 hours in length to avoid “information overload”.  You can attend as many sessions as the finished project requires based on the amount of time allotted for it in the workshop description.  The sessions will be casual and fun with breaks to stretch your legs and change your focus!

We know how busy life can be, and we here at London Yarns are aware of how you would love to squeeze in some time to be creative and have some fun.  We hope that these sessions will accomplish just that!

Here are the offerings, so far.  Keep in mind, as new projects are released, the list of available workshops will keep growing.  Let’s get knitting!

THIS CLASS IS PERFECT FOR
ALL BEGINNER KNITTERS
Lately we have had loads of requests to do a workshop on fixing mistakes. Well here it is! This hands-on class will not only teach you how to deal with all kinds of “knitting disasters” like dropped and twisted stitches and un-picking one or many rows, but will also deal with things like; “how do I know what row of my pattern I’m on” and “Oh-No! All of the stitches fell off of my needle! What do I do? And “Oh-No! The phone rang, I set down my knitting and now I don’t know how to start up again! So often customers tell us that they unravelled all of their knitting and started over simply because they didn’t have the skills to fix their mistake; Oh My! Never again after this workshop! Simply put, all beginner knitters can benefit from taking this class.

PROVISIONAL CAST-ON
(The perfect start for the perfect ending!)
One 2.5-hour Session
Cost:  $35
Date & Time:  Saturday, April 8/17 from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm
Teacher: Janet

It seems that of late many knitting patterns are asking you to begin with a “Provisional Cast-On”.  Some patterns offer it as a suggestion or option, but what is it?  I’m glad you asked!  A Provisional Cast-On is a method of casting on where the stitches that you start with are left “live” so that you can collect them later.  This method of cast-on comes in very handy and useful for many knitted projects including scarves, cowls, hems, afghan blocks or strips as well as neckline openings.  Use it any time in knitting where it would be nice to “finish where you started” without the bulk of having to sew the 2 pieces together.  Please join Janet to learn and practice this invaluable knitting technique.  Although there are many ways to achieve the Provisional Cast-On, we are going to learn the Crochet Cast-On method in this workshop.  You do not need to know how to Crochet to take this class.  By casting on with this method, you can later collect the live stitches to join your work.  This lends itself very nicely when Grafting/Kitchener Stitch or a 3 Needle Cast-Off/Bind-Off is used to join the knitting together.  It is also a beautiful way to join a hem, either plain or picot, with no sewing and no worrying about lining up your stitches.  The cast-on that we learn is also useful even if you don’t use it provisionally. The resulting edge looks exactly the same as when we cast-off in hand knitting so one edge of your knitting will look the same as the other!  Perfect for scarves and dishcloths and many other knitted items.
