Monday, March 27, 2017 – What is Spring without a little Drizzle????

Bingo is winding down!  Hurry in with your completed projects,
to get the last of your Bingo Squares stickered.

May we introduce Drizzle by Sugar Bush Yarns...a glorious combination of Super Kid Mohair & Silk, yes, SILK – Yummmmmm!!  In stock, with 18 scrumptious colours to choose from.

Now, while not everyone may share mine & Jen’s exuberant enthusiasm for Lace Weight Mohair, perhaps we can entice you to enjoy the beauty & joy of both working with it AND wearing it!  It is sooooo airy & lightweight, yet provides some warmth to take the chill off in an air conditioned office or on a cool Spring day or in the Summer evenings.  Pretty, delicate, gossamery and takes up NO space to pack while travelling.

Jen is dreaming up a gradient, rectangle shawl in a simple, yet elegant stitch – can’t wait to see what she creates!!

THIS CLASS IS PERFECT FOR
ALL BEGINNER KNITTERS
Lately we have had loads of requests to do a workshop on fixing mistakes. Well here it is! This hands-on class will not only teach you how to deal with all kinds of “knitting disasters” like dropped and twisted stitches and un-picking one or many rows, but will also deal with things like; “how do I know what row of my pattern I’m on” and “Oh-No! All of the stitches fell off of my needle! What do I do? And “Oh-No! The phone rang, I set down my knitting and now I don’t know how to start up again! So often customers tell us that they unravelled all of their knitting and started over simply because they didn’t have the skills to fix their mistake; Oh My! Never again after this workshop! Simply put, all beginner knitters can benefit from taking this class.
Rated: All Knitters
Pre-Requisite: Knowledge of Knit & Purl Stitches

Janet still has room in these next couple of classes if you would like to join us. Please give the store a call to register: (519) 474-0403.

PROVISIONAL CAST-ON
(The perfect start for the perfect ending!)
One 2.5-hour Session
Cost:  $35
Date & Time:  Saturday, April 8/17 from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm
Teacher: Janet

It seems that of late many knitting patterns are asking you to begin with a “Provisional Cast-On”.  Some patterns offer it as a suggestion or option, but what is it?  I’m glad you asked!  A Provisional Cast-On is a method of casting on where the stitches that you start with are left “live” so that you can collect them later.  This method of cast-on comes in very handy and useful for many knitted projects including scarves, cowls, hems, afghan blocks or strips as well as neckline openings.  Use it any time in knitting where it would be nice to “finish where you started” without the bulk of having to sew the 2 pieces together.  Please join Janet to learn and practice this invaluable knitting technique.  Although there are many ways to achieve the Provisional Cast-On, we are going to learn the Crochet Cast-On method in this workshop.  You do not need to know how to Crochet to take this class.  By casting on with this method, you can later collect the live stitches to join your work.  This lends itself very nicely when Grafting/Kitchener Stitch or a 3 Needle Cast-Off/Bind-Off is used to join the knitting together.  It is also a beautiful way to join a hem, either plain or picot, with no sewing and no worrying about lining up your stitches.  The cast-on that we learn is also useful even if you don’t use it provisionally. The resulting edge looks exactly the same as when we cast-off in hand knitting so one edge of your knitting will look the same as the other!  Perfect for scarves and dishcloths and many other knitted items.

Please join Janet and knit this fabulous little scarf/shawlette.  This project is a perfect introduction to lace knitting for those of you beginner knitters who have never tried knitting lace before.  Even experienced knitters will enjoy this workshop where we create a beautiful fingering weight triangular scarf.  The completed project can be worn year ‘round due to its lightweight nature.  Participants can expect to learn many techniques such as “yarn over/yarn forward” (YO/YFWD), “knitting through the back loop” (TBL), and decreases such as “knit 2 together” (K2TOG) and “slip, slip, knit” (SSK).  We will also learn how to work with stitch markers, work back and forth on a circular needle, read a pattern, and the all important technique of blocking the finished piece.
