NEW SOCK YARNS

Monday, March 13, 2017 – New Sock Yarns

We recently received a ‘restock’ of some Sock Yarn favourites, along with a few fun, NEW Sock Yarns!  Here’s is a taste of what we have to offer:

BRAND NEW ...

REGIA PAIRFECT – A new dimension in sock knitting! This innovation by REGIA makes it incredibly simple to knit two identical self-patterned socks from one skein.  Thanks to "Easy Start", it is effortless to find the beginning of each sock and to start knitting.  And each ball is guaranteed knot-free!!

It’s very easy: The yellow starter thread - which comes from inside the yarn skein - marks the beginning of each sock. Simply cut off the yellow starter thread and begin knitting the first sock. After the first sock is completed, unwind the yarn to the next yellow starter thread and cut it off. Then simply knit the second sock.  Instructions on how to use the easy starter thread are inside the ball band.

BRAND NEW ...

The OPAL SCHAFPATE collection promotes a "buy local" concept.  The yarn is made through an all-German supply chain beginning with merino sheep at the Nature Preserve BioshpareAlb in South Germany.  The wool is processed in Bremer Woll-Kammerei AG and spun in the Zwickauer Kammgarn GmbH.  Finally it is printed into sock yarn by TUTTO Wolfgang Zwerger GmbH in Hechingen before being shipped throughout the world to sock knitters.

In other words ... the sheep & wool have been born, raised, sheared, spun, dyed & shipped locally!

Look what Sherry has knit up ...  isn’t this Malabrigo Caracol Hat just the cutest?!?!  Especially when it is topped off & accented with a furry pom-pom.  This hat takes just one skein of Caracol by Malabrigo, with enough in the skein to do an extra repeat or two of the pattern, as Sherry has done here, to make it sit a bit deeper on the head.

Free pattern can be downloaded from Ravelry here:

Or, why not give this adorable Caracol Button Hat a try?

THIS CLASS IS PERFECT FOR
ALL BEGINNER KNITTERS
Lately we have had loads of requests to do a workshop on fixing mistakes. Well here it is! This hands-on class will not only teach you how to deal with all kinds of “knitting disasters” like dropped and twisted stitches and un-picking one or many rows, but will also deal with things like; “how do I know what row of my pattern I’m on” and “Oh-No! All of the stitches fell off of my needle! What do I do? And “Oh-No! The phone rang, I set down my knitting and now I don’t know how to start up again! So often customers tell us that they unravelled all of their knitting and started over simply because they didn’t have the skills to fix their mistake; Oh My! Never again after this workshop! Simply put, all beginner knitters can benefit from taking this class.
Rated: All Knitters
Pre-Requisite: Knowledge of Knit & Purl Stitches

PROVISIONAL CAST-ON
(The perfect start for the perfect ending!)
One 2.5-hour Session
Cost:  $35
Date & Time:  Saturday, April 8/17 from 10:00 am – 12:30 pm
Teacher: Janet

It seems that of late many knitting patterns are asking you to begin with a “Provisional Cast-On”.  Some patterns offer it as a suggestion or option, but what is it?  I’m glad you asked!  A Provisional Cast-On is a method of casting on where the stitches that you start with are left “live” so that you can collect them later.  This method of cast-on comes in very handy and useful for many knitted projects including scarves, cowls, hems, afghan blocks or strips as well as neckline openings.  Use it any time in knitting where it would be nice to “finish where you started” without the bulk of having to sew the 2 pieces together.  Please join Janet to learn and practice this invaluable knitting technique.  Although there are many ways to achieve the Provisional Cast-On, we are going to learn the Crochet Cast-On method in this workshop.  You do not need to know how to Crochet to take this class.  By casting on with this method, you can later collect the live stitches to join your work.  This lends itself very nicely when Grafting/Kitchener Stitch or a 3 Needle Cast-Off/Bind-Off is used to join the knitting together.  It is also a beautiful way to join a hem, either plain or picot, with no sewing and no worrying about lining up your stitches.  The cast-on that we learn is also useful even if you don’t use it provisionally. The resulting edge looks exactly the same as when we cast-off in hand knitting so one edge of your knitting will look the same as the other!  Perfect for scarves and dishcloths and many other knitted items.

We are pleased to re-introduce our “Knit-It-With-Jan-et” series of workshops.  Please join us for the first workshop (with more to come) in this series.  This is going to be F-U-N, fun!

Please join Janet and knit this fabulous little scarf/shawlette.  This project is a perfect introduction to lace knitting for those of you beginner knitters who have never tried knitting lace before.  Even experienced knitters will enjoy this workshop where we create a beautiful fingering weight triangular scarf.  The completed project can be worn year ‘round due to its lightweight nature.  Participants can expect to learn many techniques such as “yarn over/yarn forward” (YO/YFWD), “knitting through the back loop” (TBL), and decreases such as “knit 2 together” (K2TOG) and “slip, slip, knit” (SSK).  We will also learn how to work with stitch markers, work back and forth on a circular needle, read a pattern, and the all important technique of blocking the finished piece.
