A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING

Monday, November 21, 2016 – A little bit of everything

Hellooooo!  What did you think of that white stuff that fell over the weekend?????  Has it got you in the mood to knit, crochet or needle felt?  Well, come on into the store & we can help you with that!
New Shawl Pins & Shawl Sticks have arrived in choices from Nature’s Wonders (hand crafted), Alpaca Silver (hand crafted) & Inspire

A new shipment of Zauberball (fingering/sock weight) has arrived, including some new colours!!

Wide selection of Yarn Bowls, in both wood & ceramic styles.

We receive a shipment from the fellow that makes these SOLID WOOD yarn bowls about once a year & we are expecting them to arrive this week!  This year is even more special because he was able to source out some “Spalted Maple” – a rare, hard to find wood, to make these fantastic, limited edition yarn bowls!!  Handmade & carved from one solid piece of wood, these wood yarn bowls are not only incredible to look at but useful too!  Not just for yarn!!  Finished with a ‘food friendly’ glaze, they can be used for just about any purpose you wish.

Ceramic Yarn Bowls are hand made by a local potter in Bayfield.  Every one is both unique & has its own character.  Please note:  this picture only shows a small sampling of the styles & colours that are available in stock.

We now have some Knitting Machine classes scheduled, including two brand new classes!!  Have a look …
A Note from Janet:
Just in time for the holidays!  These machine knitting classes are perfect for creating lots of gifts to give this holiday season!  Join me for any of all of these sessions and create beautiful one-of-a-kind gifts in record time!  Be sure to register early, as these classes fill quickly and space is very limited.

Date & Time:  Saturday, November 26/16 from 10 am – 4 pm
Teacher: Janet
Join Janet to create another new project from the “Dragonpine Designs” library, the Fashionista Hat.  This snazzy hat is very flattering to wear and 3 sizes are offered!  Students will learn many new techniques to add to their machine knitting repertoire as well as re-visiting some favourite techniques, including knitting and attaching I-Cord, reversible fisherman’s rib, tuck stitch, and the swirl that completes the shaping at the crown.  As an added bonus, there is also a variety of knitted flowers that will be knit on the machine that you can adorn the hat with upon completion!  These stitches, techniques and flowers can be used over and over again in future projects.
Rated:  Machine Knitters with some experience.  Students should be proficient with the transfer tools and tappet tool.
Pre-Requisite:  Owner of an LK150 Knitting Machine (to be brought to class)

LACEY FLORAL SEMI/FULL CIRCLE SHAWL ON THE LK-150
Two 4-hour Sessions
Cost:  $125.00 (includes $20 yarn credit & pattern workshop notes) If the Full Circle Shawl is desired, 3x400 gram balls/skeins are required.  (The difference between the price of the yarn and the yarn credit will be charged)
Dates & Times:
     Session 1:  Wednesday, November 30/16 from 10 am – 2 pm
Session 2:  to be announced (depending on student availability)
Teacher: Janet
This lacey half/full circle is really fun to knit and a great project for all machine knitters.  Use your lacey masterpiece as a shawl or “shawlette”, a baby shawl, a decorative curtain/valance, a wall hanging, a dresser or shelf scarf, or any way you wish!  The shape is achieved by using a “short row” technique that produces knitted wedges on the needlebed.  The lace transfers create eyelet sections in each wedge that appear to swirl, giving the shawl the overall look of solid flower petals on a delicate lace background.  Once familiar with the technique, this pattern can be used with any weight of yarn, and any even number of stitches on both sides of zero giving you UNLIMITED design and size possibilities.
Our store samples (photographed) show two border options, a modified I-Cord Edging and the elaborate “knit-as-you-attach-it” Lace Border.  During this workshop, students will learn and practice both of the border options.
Rated:  Beginner to Advanced Machine Knitters.  Students should be familiar with the use of the transfer tools.
Pre-Requisite:  Owner of an LK150 Knitting Machine (to be brought to class)

NEW!!!
LATTICE & LACE SCARF ON THE LK-150
One 4-hour Session
Cost:  $65.00 (includes $20 yarn credit & pattern)
Date & Time:  Saturday, December 10/16 from 10am – 2 pm
Teacher: Janet
Join Janet to create one of the latest projects from “Dragonpine Designs”.  The Lattice & Lace Scarf is very versatile as you can easily control the width and length.  In the interest of the number of stitches involved and time frame, we have chosen to offer this workshop as a scarf, but instructions will also be given for knitting this trio of stitches into a cowl.  Students will learn many new techniques to add to their machine knitting repertoire as well as re-visiting some favourite techniques, including a picot hem, alternating lattice cables, reversible fisherman’s rib, and willow diagonal lace.  Any of the stitches and techniques mastered in this class can be used for future projects in countless ways.  The scarf is edged with a crochet “crab stitch” (optional) that will also be practiced during class.  Prior crochet knowledge is not needed to master this edge!
Rated:  Machine Knitters with some experience.  Students should be proficient with the transfer tools and tappet tool.
Pre-Requisite:  Owner of an LK150 Knitting Machine (to be brought to class)

MITTENS ON THE LK-150
Two 4-hour Sessions
Cost:  $125.00 (includes $10 yarn credit & pattern workshop notes)
Dates & Times:
     Session 1: Friday, November 25/16, from 10 am – 2 pm
Session 2:  to be announced (depending on student availability)
Teacher: Janet
The wait is over!  We finally have a mitten pattern for the LK150!  During this workshop we will be knitting a pair of adult size medium mittens.  These mittens are knit entirely on the LK150 using a traditional thumb gusset that creates both a right and left hand mitten.  They fit well and are comfortable, with nice detailing within the thumb and top-of-the-mitten shaping.  Our store sample (photographed) shows one of the cuff options, traditional 1 x 1 ribbing.  Students will also learn and practise 3 other cuff options including Cabled Rib, Twisted Rib, and the Ridged Cuff. Just think of how many pairs you could make over the next month to be ready for gift-giving and the colder weather!
Rated:  Beginner to Advanced Machine Knitters.  Students should be familiar with the use of the transfer tools.
Pre-Requisite:  Owner of an LK150 Knitting Machine (to be brought to class)

If you would like to attend any or all of these classes, please call us at 519-474-0403, with payment information, to register.
